Looking for a better IPD calibration method than matching the built-in number

My IPD is 67mm measured by the optometrist, but I am not sure if the IPD number shown by 5K+/8k is correct. I tried to do IPD calibration manually, but the effect is subtle and I can’t decide which value is better. Is there more reliable way to do IPD calibration by looking at a certain graphic pattern through the headset? In the DK2 era I read about several ways such as looking at some vertical lines drawn on a picture, but I can’t find them now.

Does it have same calibration screen as 4K, like this?

If so, for me it’s easiest to find correct IPD by looking at text. I see that i can no longer focus on text properly at IPDs above 67, ie. i start seeing double, probably because eyes can’t look more outward anymore and focus ‘beyond infinity’.
It’s also easy to see incorrect IPD and scale in games when looking at floor, i start feeling like i’m floating at IPDs above 68 or get a feel that my feet are cut by the floor below 65.
I measured mine as 66 with mirror method and later confirmed by optometrist as 66.5.

Maybe checkout @neelrocker’s ipd idea.

@ziher @Heliosurge Thank you both for the suggestion. I also find an IPD calibration tool made for Vive by Redditor Mr_Thumpy: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4g7ggi/ipd_and_vive_placement_test_app/

I have just downloaded and tried it and it can run with SteamVR. The effect is subtle but it seems that 67mm works for me best. So Pimax is accurate after all? Your results are very welcome.

It will be a few days to a couple of weeks before I can test with my move. If you can add the vive ipd solution to the 5k 8k directory.

I have been trying to do the most exact IPD calibration with the above methods. Still I am not sure about the best result. It seems Pimax headset is not sensitive to IPD difference. Is this another proof that it has bigger sweet spot than other headsets? I am more aware of the bigger sweet spot during the above tests.

I do think the larger sweet-spot makes the IPD less critical than it is on some other headsets. I haven’t used a Pimax headset yet, so this is based on what others have said.

I’ve been lazy & only used the wheel. But like yourself don’t see dramatic effect on ipd values.
