My replacement 5K+ turned up today, this new one defiantly has a different front half of the case, it is a darker black than the back half of the case and has a very slight shine to it, Is it better?, only time will tell.

P.S. I was not very impressed when I took it out of the box, to find fingerprints on the lenses, so much for QC.

This one has the rippling around the chevron on the front and feels thin, the sides do feel stronger though.

What is the model (serial) number? My 5k+ looks about the same.
Tiny imperfections and the housing feels thin and fragile.
Sorry but my new model has worse distortions then my old modelā¦ At the moment I am regretting my RMA tbhā¦

Yep the same here.
I had a mate come round today and try the Pimax 5K+, after about 2hrs or more, I put the index back on, He is now getting the ā¦ wait for itā¦Index.
After using the index, I seam to notice the distortions more or thats what i though, but by what you just sead I am not sure now.
I think I will wait for the MAS then sell the pimax and stick with the index.
Edit, and he has the same problem as me, the IPD dose not go low enough.

This is comical. Thereās basically 3 very distinct experiences you can have depending on when purchased your headsetā¦ One with very few distortions and cracking cases. One without distortions or cracking cases and then finally one without case cracking but with terrible distortionsā¦ Itās almost like weāre QA too for pimax.

At least let us know you are having an honest internal conversation. There are many suggestions here that would help Pimax mend good will, but at this point silence only conveys bad faith and intransigence.

Thatās the one I have, but I still like my 8K. Considering this was a Kickstarter, I think it turned out fairly well (at least for me). I just played Elite D for over 5 hours in VR and it was a great experience. Iām not too worried about the cracks; Iāll probably just upgrade to an 8KX.

I wouldnāt be surprised if someone in the supply chain decided to swap in garbage. It is China after all. Ripping people off and stealing anything you can get away with iis literally part of their business āethicsā in that country. If you can get away with fugging over someone while keeping their money itās considered good business, and the person defrauded should have been more careful.
So Pimax did all the testing and specs for a specific grade of plastic designed to hold up for this kind of consumer use, got the samples, approved the samples, then the supplier sent them a lower grade plastic cut with recycled styrofoam cups and sewer grease mixed in. 
That is actually a misconception driven by bad media. Truth we have just as much shady businesses here with fallen off the back of a truck. Or 3rdparty manufacturers supplying bad or out of spec parts (look at Auto recalls for example).
Truth is a lot of things you buy are often made in China. Bad press is often bigger headlines than companies putting out milestones.

Sweetie, Pimax was the victim in that story. They were the ones taken advantage of by unscrupulous materials suppliers in that hypothetical scenario. And here you want to instead victim blame? I surely donāt appreciate that attitude! But youāre right; itās far better to blame Pimax fully for their failures instead of suggesting a scenario defending the company! Whoopsie!

Lower to small FOV then you have 0 distortion and higher FOV then Index.
Unfortunately I still see distortions.
