Just received 8KX - Tracking jitter [Problem Solved - Leave PiTool open]

Got my 8KX today. The FOV and sharpness are great.

But, when using lighthouse tracking I have a constant tracking jitter like micro movements in and out. Even with the headset placed on the table. Ive cycled between Lighthouse and 9-axis, restarted pitools, steamvr, redid the calibration in pitools and steamvr, restarted computer etc etc. With 9-axis tracking mode (internal giro) its fine.

I have a single lighthouse but that was a never an issue with the 5K+ or Index. Newest pitools and firmware according to pitools.

Any ideas? @PimaxUSA @PimaxQuorra

Is the 8K-X headset advertised by Pimax as fully functional with one lighthouse?

If so, do you have v2.0 from Valve?

Well there’s your problem.

A single lighthouse should work. It sounds like it might be a hardware issue. I suggest submitting a support ticket.

If you have a lighthouse with letters, make sure it says A, if it’s a lighthouse 2.0 you should be fine.

Yes all 5k and 8k and artisan is supposed to support 1 LH.

I’m using Artisan and was using my 8K with single V2 LH without any problems. I haven’t received my 8KX, so can’t test it.

How is your LH mounted? Do you have any reflective surfaces nearby?

There is a good Steam article on tracking issues:

‘constant tracking jitter like micro movements in and out’
‘Never an issue with 5k+’
‘With 9-axis tracking mode (internal giro) its fine.’

Try going back to the 5k+, with exactly the same setup, with the headset in exactly the same place (on the table) for at least the same amount of time.

If the 5k+ still works well, but the 8kX doesn’t, and your lightouse setup is reasonably sane, then very sadly, it would seem highly likely your specific 8kX unit has some hardware problem. I would guess there is a bad connection, fog, physical obstruction, affecting one or more of the lighthouse receiving photocells.

My experience with this pre-production unit is that the 5k+ and 8kX tracking works exactly the same - supports both lighthouse versions, new/old controllers work, similar dropouts when deliberately obstructed in the similar places, etc.

I feel the base station 2.0 caused this issue why never found this issue on base station 1.0, last day I found the controller floating somewhere.

Unfortunately I no longer have the 5K+

My LH 2.0 is pretty close (small room, seated flight simming only). Could that be the issue?

Also. Are base station light meant to stay white?

It could also be RGB lightning software like ASUS Aura. It’s known to cause issues.

You might try it with each lighthouse 1 at a time and see if the issue persists. Move the LH positions and test as well. As was pointed out usb device drivers can cause microstudder in some rare cases (like the ASUS RGB lighting). You can also try gyro mode just to make sure the issue really is LH related.

I used my 5K+ with one lighthouse and it worked well

@Rage. Had this working with the 5k+. Presuming it is the same setup. Shouldn’t the 8kX work if nothing has changed in his room layout?

Maybe they over did it with the rubber coating.

I only have 1 lighthouse. I dont have the 5k+ anymore.

In giro mode no jitter.

Could this be because of only 1 lighthouse. The jitter is better (but not resolved) the further away I am from the base station.
