Jitter after Updating to PiTool 1.0.1.197 and Firmware M248

It’s not game specific - though lighter loads don’t trigger it. For example, fallout4 is just brutal if you have the judder, but you might get by without noticing it in beatsaber. When the gpu is nearing 100% util it happens a lot. It’s very strange as we haven’t identified hardware specific issues or software. I run a ryzen 3600 and a 2070 super. It also happens on my 1080 with a ryzen 5 1600 - but it happens to some intel users too shrug

Are you thinking to run Pimax 8K X with i7 3770k @4.6Ghz and 1080 TI ?

Hi Fabrizio
Indeed I am :slightly_smiling_face:

I just updated to the now newest version and now I also got the jitter…

Good luck @MrAhlefeld

Smart smoothing definitely doesn’t play well in some titles and in others it’s fine, I am glad the latest pitool leaves it and Hz set where I leave them now.

For me it either works or it has graphics anomalies and/or trouble with frame drops in demanding games like DCS and ED for example. As far as frame duplication goes, Oculus ASW 2 is where Brainwarp needs to be.

Yeah, I didn’t like the SS anomalies in Elite D either. To boost my framerate, I now use FFR on Conservative. It works pretty well and generally isn’t too bad in the 197 PiTool, except for Orbit Lines, which can be turned off.

Well I must retract my former statement, the jitter is NOT entirely gone when turning off pitool. It remains to come back regularly and is very disturbing.

Pimax5k+ SN 204,
PiTool .180, P2.dfu 244,
I7 7700 with and without sorted core affinities,
16GB DDR4 3200MHz,
MSI RTX2080ti.
Everything on SSDs

I confirm that with .144 it was gone. It reappeared when GPU utilization was increased. Could the engineers give option to lower the latter by 1%<x<5%? Maybe that way we can fix it.

The common denominator of the jitter issue was indeed always the pitool version.

It is NOT hardware configuration, RGB software, or anything similar, which had been mentioned before. It is also not the DP drivers (good idea tho). The common denominator is PiTool later than 144.

When will pitool be open source and where will it be in the code? God, I hope the code will be clean and well documented.

Thanks
It will be interresting to see the outcome, but with my 5K+ and PiTool set to 2.0 and Steam SS to 0.25 the output on the HMD is quite nice and performance is great.
The amount of pixels that need to be rendered on the 8kX is not that much more, as Pitool quality needs to be just 1.0 and Steam SS needs to be (only) 100%
I will definately report back my own experience when I recieve the 8kX, based on my current setup.

Weird I have the latest pitool and have no jitter. My 5k start with 203.

I7 6700k
16gb ram
Evga 2080 super

I have to add that I had terrible jitter even on steamvr home or the Pimax planet demo, so I don’t think it’s a performance issue, I can’t believe my computer can’t handle that.

On the other hand I’m having some ghosting effect on 144, like when you move your head there’s a halo around objects that stops when you’re standing still, that didn’t happen on 197, still better than the horrible judder, but far from perfect. I haven’t tweaked much on 144 so maybe it can be improved with hz speed or something else.

I am very interested @MrAhlefeld to your experiment!!!

I have your same SUPER PC (2012) but with NVidia 690 :joy:

My new pc project is called NEXT GENERATION ENTERTAINMENT PC and it’s on going:
W10, fiber, new smart keyboard, 3D Mouse, 3D Sound, Hybrid HD, 3080ti, Cubibot (3d printer) and hopefully Vortx, 3D Monitor without glasses

Next PC will be GOLDRAKE in 2022 targets here are Golden cove and Nvidia Hopper 5 nm

My first VR project is READY PLAYER ONE: Pimax 8K X, Nuke controllers (index), Kat Loco, Kat Walk mini

Next VR project will be ATLANTIS

I have also a GRAPHENE project. It’s on going: Headphone with graphene driver, Holographic Amplification, Sub with three layers of immersion.

I am getting a slight flicker of objects in the very far edge of my right lens only. Does anyone know if there a way to fix this? It’s not terrible, but it is noticeable.

Yes I have exactly the same issue. It happen on SteamVR Home and on some games . Some objects disappear on the edges. Normal FOV and FFR disabled.

That’s known as “object clipping” and is most likely a problem with specific games. I’ve even seen it while playing flat-screen games, including Elite Dangerous.

Yes i have the same issue, some Objects just don’t get rendered in the edges of the FOV. It appears in SteamVR Home and Pistol Whip, it happens in a lot of games.
