It seems like the 8K plus is the reliable headset and the 8K X is Pimax biting off more than they can chew

The power outage that affected the 2 8K X they had before Berlin as an example.

I’m sorry but this is a ridiculous statement and a really poor conclusion you’ve come to. Based on what sounds like a possible power surge for which you don’t know any of the circumstances!?

The 8k+ may not have even been plugged in or setup yet but even if it was and survived it would still be meaningless to try and make any viable conclusion out of it from a random event.

I’m not defending anything here except for the lack of logic in your comments.

For a $1300 headset I would be concerned as well. I want full details on the situation. Was pimax using a surge protector?

We still don’t have a 3rd party review of a fully functioning 8KX headset. We have a broken cable review or two, and now a blackout. So maybe it’s just a series of unfortunate events but the proof is in the pudding and the pudding hasn’t arrived yet.

Yeah the 8k they were demoing 2 years ago worked better :star_struck::face_with_raised_eyebrow::grinning:
I am just joking I’m sure the 8kx will be awesome :+1:

WOW… So I guess I shouldn’t trust Samsung or Intel anymore because I had a power surge that took out my TV and the processor in my main PC a few years ago by this logic? As an ex manager for Radioshack I can tell you that power surges happen every day and they tend to take many varieties of high end electronics with them. Without knowing if the Pimax team had the 8Kx’s plugged into a UPS or high quality surge protector with line conditioning then you really don’t have much to base that statement on. From the explanation that @SweViver gave in his original post it seemed as if they didn’t have the 8K+ hooked up at the time so there is no way to say that it is the reliable one out of the bunch… I would hold out for a detailed account of what went wrong and also realize that this could have happened to anyone at any time with any headset! Trade shows are notorious for having sub standard power with all of the vendors jacked in at once, so lets give Pimax the benefit of the doubt on this one…OK! []-/

Ive heard samsung can explode and apple trottles.

People were probably just holding the device incorrectly…

I just hope the headset is not gonna break down easily. The more features/components you add to a headset the more opportunities for something to go wrong. I pre-ordered it and I pray I made the right choice because I would not like to go through the nightmare of RMAing a Pimax headset.

I agree that I’m sure none of us want our pimax headsets to break down. I’ve been through a few RMA’s and still waiting to do yet another one. I feel it’s also OK for those buying or planning to buy an 8kx to be concerned about what happened to those two 8kx’s and ask for feedback from pimax.

However making new topics with poorly considered statements like this is not helpful, there is already a thread that the issue occurred in where questions could simply be asked for feedback once they have a chance to figure out what went wrong. I’m sure pimax will want to look into what happened as much as everyone else!

Unless you have insider knowledge of the electronics, I would reserve judgement until the final version is out, and not running under expo conditions.

Latest from Martin:

"FYI, 8KX has heatsinks inside. Its a different PCB and chipset compared to 8K+.

The issues in Berlin were not caused by the headsets. It was electrical spikes. But we have already confirmed long ago (back in Shanghai) that the 8KX needs extra protection for voltage, which is now added in the latest PCB and cable being hard-tested in Shanghai atm. Although we dont have thayt version here during the EU trip."

My PC died from a power surge due to lightning strike, the insurance company did not cover an “act of god”. I guess the largely ASUS component set was not reliable enough by your logic either.

Without the details, we cannot know if the 8KXs are especially delicate.

Most electrical devices cannot handle extreme electrical spikes. Years ago, we had a lightning strike hit a tree ~8 m from our home. It left a small crater in the ground which threw large chunks of concrete (from the driveway) as far as 4 m. It fried most of the electrical items in the house (the stove, every light dimmer switch, and even the TV, VCR, and OG XBox which were plugged into a (cheap) surge protector. My PC survived, but the high-quality UPS/surge protector it was plugged into was ruined.

Which UPS were you using for your PC? I have an expensive 2080 Ti gaming PC and I’ve been thinking of using a UPS with it but the last APC UPS I got kind of had a sulphur smell to it.

I currently have an ACP. I’m not sure of the brand of the one that died, but I think it might have been an ACP. I was happy with its performance, since it saved my PC, even though most of the other electrical stuff fried. Over half of the house’s circuit breakers flipped, so we were lucky the house didn’t catch fire. We were away at the time and the first clue that there was a problem was that the garage door opener didn’t work.

We should not spread those rumor based fears - it’s not Leading anywhere. Would be nice to know the hmd can take some punching, but any device will go down if it’s hard enough - so we can just hope , as for any device, that it’s build to handle most common issues the Rest is Good or bad luck.

Any protection will fry if the lighting hits too close + in the right place.

There was no lighting strike in Berlin at this time.
There must be some other explanation but we can only guess…

Maybe there was a Rammstein gig in the neighbour city.

Always some sort of problems with Pimax at these showings. First it was cables being worn down and now a power spike.
