Is the Gouda meeting still as planned?

I read in another thread that there will be 1 (one) 8kX to demo on Sunday instead of the expected 3. But there are 3 positions booked for every slot. How is this going to work?

I only tried the 8kX for 2-3 minutes in Amsterdam because I expected I would have 30 minutes in Gouda, but if the max we can count on is 5 - 10 minutes then it wouldn’t justify the 3 hours travel time.

Also what does that mean for the games that can be tested. The limited time means there will be the ones offered in Amsterdam. I was hoping to test Skyrim - teleporting around bright days and dark dungeons, because I wanted to see how it deals with the black and the colors. But this doesn’t seem will be possible now.

If there were 30 min slots I would expect 1/3*30 so 10 Mins for everyone

Yes, I already wrote that. What was your point?

Just dont expect more then 10 mins…

How do you know that?

It is not that I do not appreciate that you bump the thread up.

Unless massive people cancel the meeting, I dont know how they would manage it with 1 X. And I am pretty sure most of the people are coming just to see the X…

… I dont know how they would manage it with 1 X.

I see. You are replying to my question by echoing my own speculation back to me as a “real answer”. Not sure why would you do that, but it isn’t really helpful.

Lol maybe you believe is some miracles…

So hopefully somebody will tell us how this will affect the setup and the game selection.

I would try contact

Hmm, there is now (20 min ago) and email from Darius saying:

“Please note that the Pimax 8KX model is cutting edge technology. There were some problems in Berlin with the prototypes after a power failure but we have a third spare flown in for this demo.”

And he confirms the games: " Aerofly FS2, Assetto Corsa, Skyrim and Elite Dangerous"

That kind of answers the most important question I had about teh game selection. 10 min teleporting around Skyrim can tell everything about the headset. If there is a save after Helgen.

We did bring in another unit which did arrive but there will only be 1 potential demo unit there and there was no time to test it.
Update: I doubt the 8KX will make an appearance at this meeting.

@SweViver Except about the high resolution of 8KX. Skyrim has very low textures.
@mixedrealityTV showed a Hellsplit: Arena hands on because it is much more detailed than Skyrim.

Relax. The “default” experience they show to people is Aerofly FS2 so there are enough Ah’s and Oh’s about how clear the gauges are and how readable the text/numbers are.
But I don’t need to test something I know is better. I know it is 4k. What I want to test is how it deals with the things that are problematic for an LCD headset - colors, blacks and “atmosphere”. And Skyrim is the perfect game for this.
For me the 8kX would be a 2500 euro upgrade (headset + usable audio + 2080ti) so it would need to bring something more to the table than slightly better resolution. The headset is too expensive to be an one hit wonder.

My skyrim looks better than any new game on the market right now. Throw some 4k mods on it if your worried about texture resolution. With “wabbajack” and its mod packs modding skyrim is easier than ever.

The matter of low resolution textures is not much of a problem, because the most immediate benefit of higher resolution screens is that you can resolve things better at a distance, and that’s what we need to look for. Up close, things are already pretty decent, in a way. :7

Please don’t forget about distortions.
