I’m new to this community and also a backer for the full 8K package and I note some posts that are discussing about WMR headsets actively, but is Pimax really compatible with MR? Can anyone tell me the answer?
If Pimax is not compatible with MR, is there any way to solve it? I really want to know the answer.
I would like to say it’s a nice place here as I see many enthusiastic folks gather here and speak out freely. Any comments will be appreciated.
Truth atm i believe only MS sponsored hmds are ms mr compatible. Not its possible with a module release it could be compatible or perhaps a 3rd party program. Alot will depend on how Open MS chooses to be on the matter otherwise.
Hey @Matthew.Xu has your team contacted MS abput supporting 5k/8k headsets?
Currently, the answer to that is no. And I really don’t care if Pimax is compatible.
As a Pimax backer myself and the owner a MS MR HMD (Samsung), let me ask you a question. Why would you care if Pimax is compatible to MR? There is hardly any VR games in the MS store and while interesting at first, I find Cliff House to be boring. In fact, I’ve rename Cliff-House to “Prison Cliff House” because that’s exactly the way it feels to me. When I use my Samsung HMD… 99% of the time the first thing I do is leave Cliff House and go to Steam.
Truth they’re both & have been for quite sometime. But it would be smart indeed to open things up but atm licensing equals money & i imagine the agreement means sharing with them headset designs.
The Xb1 is likely to either at some point either have 1 ms mr headset made by ms or possibly support all the current ms mr headsets. I know they had planned on putting some version of w10 on the xb1. Just don’t know if cancelled or delayed.
With a front camera any VR headset can emulate AR, but at the moment who cares. I don’t want to see my messy basement. I want to escape into other worlds. Now that Microsoft has agreed to support OpenXR , and everyone else that counts in the Windows platform, we should be able to get most everything working together went the standard is completed now that all the players are on the same page.
Yes and to do MR you need cameras to see the real world you are mixing with graphics. In a sense you are “emulating” AR in a VR headset. They aren’t the same but MR is a mixed of AR/VR in a fashion and we are only just getting started on way we might use all this tech.
My actual point was in answer to the question of this thread. You need cameras to Mix Reality.
That’s not what the OP was asking about, read it again. He’s talking about Microsoft’s Windows MR (WMR) headsets, which are VR without cameras, not AR. Microsoft has totally misused the Mixed Reality terminology. The question of the thread was would Pimax be able to run software released in Microsoft’s Mixed Reality store, and the answer from Pimax is, for now no, but they are talking to Microsoft about it.
Microsoft groups a lot of tech different tech (including AR and hololens) under the mixed reality banner
.
In terms of what might be a differentiation of MR and VR within the Windows OS, it would seem to me to be having a camera system to capture the real world to mix with. otherwise it’s just VR as we know it. Perhaps the OpenXR standard will help delineate the differences better than MS does.
My only point is at a minimum a camera is needed to satisfy the definition and with one there is no reason to think the any hmd can’t perform some sort of “mixed” reality.
Which again, is NOTHING to do with this topic. This topic is about whether Pimax supports Windows Mixed Reality VR software, purchased from the Microsoft Store.
Well I read the title of the topic and didn’t see anything about the store or it’s software in the title or the opening paragraph but if you want to impose your opinion of what is relevant to the thread, I guess it’s your thread now. Enjoy your XMas
