Hello everyone, I have a GTX 1080 video card and was wondering if this optimization will be available in the future, since I am at the edge of performance and have to trade image quality for it.
Thank you for the replies.
Pimax once told that they will make FFR compatible with gtx 1000 gpus about half year ago. No news from then. Now I expect nothing about that.
Pretty sure @PimaxUSA also said that it relies on Nvidia driver feature(s) only present/enabled on RTX cards.
I have also heard it’s enabled for RTX cards by the Nvidia drivers. So, I guess you may need to ask on the Nvidia Forums for FFR on the GTX-series.
It is hard to say. Pimax might be able to accomplish something down the road.
Really FFR like FR needs more support on the game/title to be truely effective. Oculus has support in their SDK for several types of FFR (3 or 4 if mem serves) that are agnostic to gpu vendor & type.
Nvidia’s is an attempt to add flavor of FFR to programs without native support for RTX cards. But do also have extra support if devs are using Nvidia SDK.
My experience with Foreated Rendering has not been a huge success in Il2. 50% crash rate which sucks.
It can help speed things up but for now I will leave it off. Assetto Corsa on the other hand it works well and that is all I do in VR at the moment as I patiently await light houses and controllers ))
I was in contact with Nvidia about that specific matter. They clearly said that FFR will be an RTX exclusive feature and there are no plans to implement it into GTX.
Pimax though theoretically may implement it but given all their hickups and delays I very much doubt they have spare resources to actually acomplish that in a reasonable timeframe.
Conclusion: No FFR with Pimax and GTX, except you still believe in Santa Claus
I remember all the marketing materials for Pascal where they talked about all these features. Now that they have new cards, only RTX owners need apply. So ridiculous.
So in the meanwhile we can enjoy oculus titles that have uneeded Nvidia flavor ffr as the oculus sdk supports FFR in an agnostic gpu senario. I believe EchoArena? Is one title.
Maybe if it was implemented in SteamVR, that would solve a lot of headaches. Be beneficial for Valves Index too although not as much as Pimax given the lack luster FOV of the Index.
