Iracing graphics feedback

This doesn’t really make sense to me since I was at 89-90fps previously with my i5-8400… But I installed a new processor I got for Xmas. It is an I5-9600k. For the heck of it, I spent a few minutes tweaking setting with it and it is running dead stable at 5.0Ghz. I swear the clarity significantly improved in the Pimax 5k. I just can’t rationalize why. I did about 1.5 hours in the SRF tonight without issues.

Depends what someone prefers.
I do prefer added 11.1ms lag in exchange to a non stutter experience.

I was just wondering why iracing actually needs PP enabled?

Afaik you can turn on three viewports for tripple head gaming, including the angle of the side displays!
So, while it could be that the other viewports can not be simply turned on in the graphic settings or in the renderdx11.ini because it is a totally different renderpath it would be definately worth to try to adjust either ingame graphic settings or directly alter the .ini entries.

Can someone try it and confirm? I am still not home and can not try myself for the next week, unfortunately.

I dont think you can adjust the angle of a triple monitor setup in iRacing. I’m not sure though.
If anyone tries this, let me know please.
Either way I get 90fps on every track so far, with occassional dips during night time, or heavier tracks like Nurb

If you load a track and go to options/graphics then on the top right you can enter all the details about your triple setup like screen size/distance and even the angle. At least this is how I remember it :joy:

Of course I can get also steady 90fps easily. Depends on the steamVR SS setting

I dont know why people are saying SteamVR SS does anything. I’ve changed it from 100% (where I always keep it) and moved it to 200%, the visual quality is the same, except the black boxes and other HUD items move.
only the dx11Renderer file’s pixel density number changes anything. I keep steam at 100, dx file also at 100, and pitool at 1.0. I did recently add sharpening and change it from 125 to 175 and it did seem to make things a bit more crisp.

Did you restart steamVR and IRacing after changing? In iRacing so far i left everything at defaults and was happy with it. Except ingame I turned most of the things down to low or medium (1080ti). FOV in pimax at normal.

Default is 116 in the dx11renderer file and i have a 2080ti fe, most of my settings are high/med. at ddefault i was getting fps drops.

And yes i restarted steamVR

Iracing’s devs in their forums confirmed SS only works in their dx11renderer file also.

strange. my hud boxes move, my fps drop and my graphics change aswell. why would that be if steam SS does nothing and I never touched the pixeldensity in the ini. got to have another look at it…

I do see fps drops when i change steamVR SS for iRacing, but visual quality has no change for me. Only the pixel density makes a change.

It may be different if you’re actually starting iRacing through Steam. I only start it through the website.

If you start in Steam, it does open the browser :joy:
No way in starting iRacing without browser login.

But please can somebody try to configure triple screen in VR and run without PP to see if it works?

I have a triple setup… but you mean just to pretend I got one in VR in the iracing menu?

Actually you can start without the browser with the Beta UI.

Mike do you use the large FOV? In large I dont see any changes adjusting Steam SS and the fps stays the same. I used normal FOV and wanted to see how it could look like with max Steam SS - looked really clean but 30fps.

I use Normal FOV. Large makes too small of a difference.
SteamVR SS changes for iracing dont work for me either. It just moves the HUD around a bit, but the visual doesnt change and the fps does drop if I go too high. and the Beta UI sucks for VR. It’s not optimized well in my opinion.

Yep would be nice to not need PP on and enjoy the added performance.

Never tried the new ui so far

I use PP with iRacing and still get 90fps. I dont think the PP affects iRacing alot. In fact, I dont notice a big difference with it on/off on other titles, like Assetto Corsa, RaceRoom, etc.

Just did a short test. Multiprojection and SMP, different angles in the triple menu. Nothing has any visible effect. That stuff isn’t working in VR at all :frowning: But did not expect it to.

Then I loaded iRacing, Brands Hatch, just standing there in the pits with no Parallel Projection: 83fps
Got out activated PP, restarted pitool and SteamVr, again just sitting in the pits: 51fps

Thats crazy! can someone verify?

That sounds a little worse than is should be, based on info Pimax posted a while back: PP cuts your framerate by ~30%. What you’re experiencing is a 0.61 reduction (~39% less).

holy cow - 30%!? oh my god… thats like you have a rtx2080ti and only get the power of a gtx1080ti!

we have to get in touch with iracing… there’s no question the pimax will be used by a LOT of simracers.

edit: I sent David Tucker a PM on the iRacing forum about this.

I found these settings to be superb with my 1080ti in terms of quality and performance.

PiTool Quality 1.0
FOV Normal

Steam VR SS 46% (!)

my iRacing renderer ini: File-Upload.net - Datei nicht gefunden

That was when I had my 980 Ti. I was satisfied with the performance, so I had no reason to investigate.

My highest framerates only increased by an unnoticeable 3-5%, but the lowest framerates (like stations and planet surfaces in Elite Dangerous) showed a 20-30% improvement, which was awesome. (Who cares when the framerate goes from 120 to 123 FPS? However, a 48 to 62 jump in FPS is quite obvious.)
