Htc Vive pro 1 with lense mod

Also this makes no sense at all. The cv1 has much worse sde than the 5k+

This is my sentiment about VP1 and P5k+ as well. I could not stand Alyx in P5k+, but totally enjoyed it in VP1, but then I fired up Elite and realized how limited the FOV and how the resolution suffers from the pentile OLED.

Just for the info, I did an exercices and calculated the PPD for Vive Pro 1 just few days ago and it was on average 15,3 in 90° cone. Using the same method on my Pimax 5k+ long time ago yielded PPD of ~14,1 in 90° cone. So while theoretically VP1 should be better, it is being gimped by the OLEDs and missing the half of red and blue subpixels.

I had the 5k+ P1 Version not the p2 . Perhaps that was the reason

I thought the “P1” was the Pimax 4K (while P2 was all the “new generation” ones including 5K+/BE/8K/8KX)?

Hmm  I had the 5k+
I was assuming that is was a P1 early adopters model

They might have had a P1 designation for a short while.

@Heliosurge would know

sn: 201, 202, 203 & 204 I believe.
201 & 202 where the ones with bad SDE (black dots) IIRC

Yeah exactly, had black dots

That’s correct prior to the Pimax wide FoV KS headsets they were P1 ie p4k, Pimax B1 & Pimax Pro.

So I just dusted off my VP1 again, had been a while, wanted to make sure I wasn’t mistaking, you almost got me doubting myself @RaiN274  Either way the SDE, especially on red colors, is just really in your face. You don’t have to actively look for it, you just can’t miss it. I’m really not sure why you’re excited about this thing, I’d never be able to go back. But oh well to each their own.

i guess by some reason he has issues with fresnel optic and lenses decrease image quality significantly on other hmds, for me sde on vp1 is close to 5k+, only red colours cause sometimes problems

yeah I guess so. If you really hate fresnel, the Vive Pro with lens mod might be just for you. And the colors are of course really great, you’ll see details in dark environments that you just can’t see with lcd headsets. But man, I just hate SDE. We’re finally having a generation where SDE is not a problem anymore and now (some) people want to go back to seeing SDE. But of course everybody is different and we all have different prioirties.

Yeah I am done with fresnel lenses , aspherical are way more fun and OLED is so refreshing to have again :slightly_smiling_face:

I will also switch from my Acer x27 predator to the LG true rgb monitor

G2: 150%ss(stable 90fps ingame)

Vive pro 1 with lense mod 500%ss ( also very stable 90fps ingame)

Vp1:

Very high Edge to Edge clarity

G2

Vp1:

those images get people confused, it’s not the case, mobile filters fix the SDE, on VP1 without lenses mod (native lenses) I also have good TTL videos that look insane & games feel & look spectacular, but that videos just very FALSE statement regarding SDE, Im not sure why you try to compare SDE on G2 & VP1 with lenses mod, it’s just incomparable, plus your video camera gets worse focus in G2 & that’s why it looks worse, but irl it’s very different story

https://community.openmr.ai/t/through-the-lenses-videos-vive-pro-atm/30078/12

plus in Alyx - internal engine can decrease resolution & G2 has worse performance than VP1 (on the same resolution levels) so it may look blurry but if tuned right it’s not (I agree however on the point that G2 is total unsable garbage, at least my unit, but center of the displays is very nice, just a little riple for pixels patterns same as in index but less pronounced)

I didn’t compare sde I compared the readability .
And you can see the sde in the side by side photos I took đŸ€·đŸ»

the point is I can’t, after mobile photo algorithm processing the image is interpolated & you don’t see the big big gaps between the pixes. Im not sure maybe you have vision issue & due to this it’s not so pronounced for you (diff between 2 HMDs SDE) but believe, it’s on another level, G2 has minimal SDE (I can see it on white spots) on VP1 SDE is big, worse than on index, cosmos, quest 2, 8kx, g2
on par with 5k+, better than 8k OG, cv1, 5k XR, StarOneVR (I didn’t try one, but saw multiple reports that starone vr is a bit worse due to stretched FOV), og vive,

odyssey+ had less SDE than VP1 but VP1 had more details & sharper image (prefferences vary)

let me find you an image to illustrate how it looks irl & why it looks so nonsense for me:

this is comparison 8kx vs OG Vive
8kx has worse SDE than G2,
Vive Pro was next generation (after OG Vive/CV1) & sibling to 5k+, 8k, Odyssey+ etc
then there was another generation of HMDs like Index, Quest 2(better than index)

so it looks like this SDE scale (lefter is better) G2/VP2, 8kX <---- QUITE NOTICEABLE GAP -----> Quest2 <---- HUGE GAP IS HERE IN SDE -----> Index, 5k+/Vive Pro 1

And comparing Vive Pro image to og vive it would look something like

SDE Is good & I like HL:A on VP1 better than on index & quest2 but it’s miles bigger than quest 2 & a bit worse than on index. Again, it’s not compable to G2 at all nor to VP2, it’s just very BOLD FALSE statement.

The members are just very polite here, I don’t want to look rude, but that’s just simple not true, however I understand that you may experience this due to specific of your vision or similar case which describes why you had issues with other HMD I personally don’t have issues with & seems Pimaxes suite you better than ordinary lenses designs. But for average consumer SDE of VP1 (even with mod) & G2 are just on another whole level.

I am infront of my desktop now and the uploaded photos are the same as on my smartphone :man_shrugging:t2:

you can think what you want but I wouldn’t upload photos that are not representative what you see in the hmd . And I don’t wanna trash talk my G2 or other hmds , I am simply showing you what you would see with my lense mod applied.

as you found distortion profile working for you & I have the same gearvr mod with increased sweetspot, and it seems you don’t get how photos are processed when you do a shot on mobile (its like applying a photoshop filter on top of what optics see) it won’t be different on desktop or tv, just scaled, as post processing filter happens at the shot time & image saved in filesystem of a phone with that filter already applied (i.e. stored in image codec data like jpeg, png or IOS own codecs).

anyway that’s a not objective discussion, so I gonna stop here.

Should I get a dslr then if you dont believe me
