HTC is back! Vive pro 2 with 2.5k * 2.5k per eye @ 120 hz

I would say Alyx is probably the worst choice with its auto-adaptive resolution/detail adjustment. It is difficult to say what comes from the lenses, what from the resources and what from the auto-adapting engine.

The game scales great with the G2 compared to the index

But it you want the permanent license/support fee without the yearly subscription will increase the price by a few thousand.

I know, I’m saying the headset costs $3195 USD in North America but $3195 Euro in Europe. But 1 Euro = 1.22 USD. So you’re paying 20% more. Maybe it’s because of VAT.

On the other hand: Given the cone type density across the retina; Past 20-ish PPD, blue resolution supposedly begins to diminish as a problem, and the same for red past 40-ish, so we may be (EDIT: slowly) approaching the point where pentile is not necessarily that egregious.

As for Voodoo’s FOV and clarity-over-FOV tests; He did seem to suggest that there may have been room that he could get closer to the lenses, but presumably didn’t want to do any extra fiddling past what a paying consumer should have to do, even if that amounts to as little as peeling off the face gasket as an experiment.

I’m mostly disgusted that a phone builder still can’t get a microphone right. :stuck_out_tongue:

@VoodooDE review is really depressing. They wrote me the IPD range was 57-72 and I did not believe them. How refreshing to learn I was not the only one :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:.

I have some doubts that the vertical FOV @VoodooDE reported is even 94° (or whatever was in the review) as it seems he is measuring it with a wrong tool (maybe the RoV tool?). Judging by the Index vertical FOV (measured) which is out of range of the rendered FOV. So I would detract 10° from the Vive Pro 2 figure to stay on the safe side.

All in all, it seems that HTC did it again.

To be honest, I never had an HTC phone. Maybe it is their microphone quality . I am more concerned by the botched optics though. It looks like they are making it worse with each iteration.

Yup - matching their track record. :stuck_out_tongue:

Pretty sure I head Graylin (who always looked to me like some Bond villain :P) talking in an interview that there would be magnetically attached padding both front and back, none of which can be seen here - not much appears to have changed, but I suppose he may have been talking about the new Focus when he said that…

EDIT:

“Whoa! Back off! That’s our sound maan.” – words I’m sure have drawn groans out of one or two music producers over the years… :9

It baffles the mind that when they finally update their optics, it is for the worse. I guess we’ll see if there’s more to the story, once we get more reports,

You can control that with these launch parameters:

+vr_fidelity_level_auto 0 +vr_fidelity_level 8

The Pimax 8KX is WAY WAY better… even the microphone…

Wrong tool? Even when I used the wrong tool, I used this tool with all the other headsets as well, so the comparison is the same

Mrtv is testing the Vive pro 2 and was saying he was shocked what you said . He is experiencing a complete different taste/result .

This means : it’s very subjective again because of the headshape

Don’t cancel your preorder guys

Does anybody know which other reviewers received a VP2 ? Would be keen to learn what Ben Lang has to say about it, he is usually quite balanced and thorough in his reviews. No undeserved hyping or bashing of a headset. But the first reviews surely haven’t given us much hope for a new world-beater, that seems to be clear by now… I’ll just have to decide if I hold on to my pre-order to give it a try (while still having 2 weeks to return it) or just cancel it right away. I’ve got a G2 & 8KX (and Quest 1&2, Rift S), so no need for a mediocre additional headset to catch dust over here.

Also that the wireless module resolution penalty is only said to be improved later on doesn’t instill too much confidence either - that particular use case could have been the VP2’ unique selling point to me.

Hmmm…

Sebastian can tend to over hype things, but will be nice to know his thoughts. Also the second review I posted the guy said that he could see the black borders on the side more so than other headsets, but the that resolution is great

If you Type “Vive 2” in Youtube and filter to the last 24 hours. you will see there are 3-4 reviews to be premiere in the coming hours. There is also reviews in other languages

Hmmm, had a look, but there really doesn‘t seem to be a lot in terms of reviews coming up. I guess it didn‘t meet as much interest as I assumed it would, or HTC only dished out a very limited number of samples…

Vr-Legion made a test here: HTC Vive Pro 2 im Test - Der 5K-Herausforderer mit großem FoV (Update: Besseres Bild noch im Testzeitraum per Softwareupdate)

he found, that the picture is a little blury, compared to index or quest2yes, more pixels, but kind of blury(you notice it when you compare the headsets)

he even invited people from the community to test it as well, with the same result
he used also 2 different pcs to test ist
(he makes test for computer-magazines)

there conculsion: his son - after 1 Week of testing - is for canceling there private preorder of the Vive Pro 2 and he himself also tends to cancel the preorder…

they wanted to replace their index because of the low resoltion of the index…but: the HTC Vive Pro 2 is not what they have expected…

there endresult is not that bad than voodoodes, but still: its also not a index killer at all
