Helio said it was an entirely negative review, yet the conclusion states it’s the best headset for sims.
No one else has said the tracking is that bad, so possibly test environment issue, won’t be able to comment until I have mine.
Interestingly the reverb G1 IS on their recommended list, so they are saying the G2 is worse than the G1, despite saying it’s an improvement in every way, even tracking? Hmm.
Wow. Here’s a young guy doing his best to share his interest-and improving with every effort- and all you can do is spew venom.
Dmel is very open to critiques and is clearly enough of a critical thinker to revise his opinions as better evidence comes in.
It’s the condescending and mean spirited tone that makes your posts unpleasant.
Oh, and the disingenuous sophistry doesn’t help either. Dmel is likely not the first to block you and he surely won’t be the last.
Thanks for the continued updates. Sounds like the clarity difference between the two is even greater which sounds awesome considering how good the 8kx looks to me. I will say that for me the true sharpness of the 8kx comes when I can keep all supersampling values at the 100% level, including in-game settings. Unfortunately with my 1080ti I always have to turn values down below 100% in at least one of the settings areas. Games still look really good but they don’t have that sharpness that I see when set at 100%. This tells me what I can expect when the newly “released” GPUs are actually in stock without having to be on constant watch to find one.
I am curious to see what the clarity looks like in the G2, but I really like the image quality level I’m getting with 8kx along with its wide FOV. I also have a Q2 and every time I use it I’m struck with the FOV loss. It is true that after a while I’m able to enjoy it anyway but the FOV loss still comes into my mind when I think of what the 8KX looks like while using it. That is probably why I haven’t really used my Q2 much yet.
The real problem is your confusing math with reviews.
Would you prefer folks to call it personal evaluations?
Case in point why would someone need to reinstall an old Graphics card to compare to the new one? When the benchmarks still exist for the old card to compare to the new model.
Where does that say it is entirely negative? “Not as Favorable” - that is not saying it is completely terrible.
Make sure your testing in Expert mode. As most average users might not notice tracking issues in non high response situations. (Beatsaber also caused valve to update LH tracking due to how fast ppl move)
Because he found a bottleneck in his PC, so the 2080ti would also be bottlenecked, comparing a bottlenecked GPU to an unbottlenecked one is not a “fair” comparison, all other GPU reviewers use the same platform for their reviews, not change whole bunch of settings and parts
I don’t play beatsaber, so that’s not a test I will be performing on my G2, I’m sure people can check reviews for that data
There are still tons of Benchmarks out there to compare to. Is there not?
Plus with testing a gpu one should use Gpu bound games where the cpu has minimal impact.
Do you recall the criticism that was given to professional review sites testing Mantle with top cpus? When the idea was to remove cpu bounding on the gpu.
Do you play anything similar that requires fast steady repetitive movements like Beatsaber in Expert mode?
Cause to compare controller responsiveness you need something that will stress test tracking to compare to your other headsets.
Not for the games he ran and not with the 8kx, so no, no one elses GPU reviews give a baseline to compare against, which means his 3090 results are also basically meaningless with nothing to compare to
I’m not doing any reviews of the G2, I’ve sold my vive and no longer have basestations, so for my purposes its irrelevant how it compares to other headsets, I’ll have a quest 2 and a G2 and I will just use which ever headset is best for whichever games I want to play
I play sims and have dedicated controllers for those, I hope the G2 controllers are good enough to play FPS’ so that my son and I can do multiplayer, for excercise based games I will use the Q2 for wireless, so far I’ve noticed zero issues with Q2 tracking
Yeah. It’s true. The 8KX really shines with the 3090 when you can bump that supersampling to 100% and higher. I don’t go lower than 100% now and often 125% or 150%.
Yes I read this yesterday and confirms what put me off WMR headsets after my own experience, terrible tracking. Apart from controller issues my Lenovo also routinely only provided 3DOF instead of 6DOF with no explanation. Shame four cameras still hasn’t sorted the problem then, I’ll stick to the one LH which is still leagues above what I had before.
No doubt the G2 has great screens for seated experiences, but I also didn’t like the scuba mask view on the old headsets, it felt claustrophobic. From day one I wanted that to be better, along with better res and reduced SDE.
Therefore if I hadn’t managed to get the X working to my liking by now, I would personally swap to an Index. Sounds like it would suit me better and I’d take a hit on resolution for the all round improvement.
@NextGenVR Thank so munch you for your honest review !
Its 20~25% sharper becouse of lenses or you feel its perceived resolution ?
during A/B test what was steamvr resolution per eye in both headsets ?
so you did A/B test only in 1 game ? that’s a bit odd , it was with PP ON or OFF in Pimax?
BTW regarding colors opinion - what PT color settings are you using in Pimax 8kx ? its default during A/B test or bumped up saturation in Pimax colors settings ? what would be your opinion if you add +2 sat and -1 bri. ?
It really depends very much on the ambient lighting in your room. As I don‘t care about the lighting when playing VR it‘s really a very easy fix to get absolutely acceptable performance with tracking. Sure it may take a couple of minutes to find which lights may interfere with the tracking but once figured out it‘s no issue at all imho. Probably only hardcore FPS Players may depend on lighthouse tracking.
Which means for the types of games you play tracking issues will be at a minimum as your usage sounds like you will not be in scenarios needing high repetitive accuracy.
If there isn’t at present at some point there will be. Honestly though don’t need to test games if one wants to benchmark. Just use Benchmarks like Openvr benchmark and VRmark.
Myself personally? Game benches are okay but unlike synthetic benchmarks makes things harder to test with all the potential settings adjustments one can do and the Auto type adaptive settings. 2080ti has been out for awhile and not that difficult to get results. Maybe of my buddy gets 8kXs to sell can talk to him about using a setup with no cpu potential bottlenecks on newest threadripper as he has top hardware to play with being an extreme pc computer shop.
As Noro said there are variables that will affect tracking. There is also requirements of the game. BeatSaber pro type players will expose tracking system limits as Valve had to push a lighthouse update quite awhile ago as Beatsaber players demostrated they could move faster than they thought possible.
Rift S even with extra camera’s on release had bad tracking til a few updates resolved it. Pumcy has pointed out compared to the Rift S that the extra cameras don’t seem to be placed as optimally as the Rift S.
The g2’s mechanical ipd is not great either with 3 settings. However it seems to be initially a better release vs the g1 launch issues.
Fair enough I found no combination of lighting or no lighting solved it, the headset was fine (apart from the random 3DOF thing) but the controllers would jump / lose connection all the time. Bluetooth was probably a factor too.
I gave up playing Skyrim et al was infuriating, and stuck to ED etc. But once I had the 5k+, single LH, and Index controllers (and new PC), I never had to worry about it again and could play anything I wanted.
With the exception that the Lenovo was much more comfortable than the 5k+, at least before some modding. That said, both headsets benefitted from an additional overhead strap. I’m using the Lenovo one on the X now, wraps quite well around the SMAS speakers.
Sure Beatsaber is not one I’ve tried, but Skyrim, Superhot, Gorn etc. Sounds like Rift S with 5 cameras is better than G2. But who knows, there’s probably more updates on the way that may fix it.
