If your USB ports are allways powered on, and you long press the HMD power button till the LED turns bright RED, it will not power on automatically.
At least that’s hot it behaves on my system

Very true. I have my pimax extended into a different room as the PC with a pully system for the cables so this way I can hit a button instead of unplugging and having a cable unplugged. Probably silly but will most likely do it for a bit of convenience.
Ah, so the idea is to keep it always powered and at “stand by”. I don’t want to change the setting for my USB ports, but just plugging the black plug into the power and keeping it plugged will have the same effect.

Just to update, I tried the Sabrent hub and it seems to be working as intended to cut power to the headset when the button is in the “off” position. Interestingly, it must still let data through in the off position because Pitool will still recognize the headset as connected with it plugged into the hub even with the button to off as long as it is getting power from the second usb port. Out of curiosity, I tried to start SteamVR like this and it started but tracking was all messed up.
