as you know, I have just received the 8K Plus production unit. Could you please let me know how to activate the 110hz mode? For some reason, it does not show up when I connect the headset (Pitool 258). Please let me know what I am missing. I can just choose between 72/90hz. My headset firmware version is: V2.1.255.260.
As far as I know, the 110hz mode hasn’t been enabled yet. You might have to contact Pimax to see if they’ll give you a beta version of the software.
Really? But on the website it says in huge letters “Experience Buttery Smooth VR at 110hz”. I don’t think they would advertise with that refresh rate and have people order it when it is actually not enabled.
You would think so, but you never know with Pimax. I see a post on your video from someone “110HZ is still not available at this time for this headset…Myself I prefer my 5K+ serial 203 and I had to resell the 8K+. 5K+ = Sharp Image , 8K+= soft image with almost no SDE.”
You got it. Advertising an unreleased as of yet feature as mentioned in your 8kX Alyx thread. I am guessing once the 110hz for the 8k+ is released that the 120hz upscaled mode will also be released on tye 8kX
There is already minimally one whom is not impressed after receiving it. I think it’s in the #PIMAX-HMD:P2-8k Category. Clicking on that will take you to the subcategory.
I do agree they shouldn’t be advertising it until it’s available as they have advertised it for 3+ months now as a feature.
It should at least have a disclaimer saying unreleased and there working on it. Not a good move to use it as a selling point. Almost as bad as “ipd support 55 to 75 self adaption”
If that is really true, I think this is way worse than the IPD range. The 110hz are basically the big selling point for the 8K Plus, because that is the only benefit over the 8K X right now, other than price.
If that’s actually true (still not convinced), this for sure does not help Pimax with their bad reputation as far as communication with customers is concerned. They should take down all claims to 110hz or at least make it super visible on the website, that this will happen in a future firmware upgrade, that will come no later than ETA.
Yep the 110hz is a main selling point that would appeal to all. Where as the Ipd self adaption range is more towards folks at extreme ends of the ipd spectrum. Under 60 and above 72.
We already have had a member cite if not out when they receive the 8k+ that it could be regarded as false adverising.
I believe that they had the 110hz on the 8k+ running but wanted to release one PiTool for the + and x. If it was timed wisely that would be ok, but since the weeks are passing, I guess it would be time to at least release a version for the 8k+ - but maybe that is interlocked some how. @PimaxUSA, @PimaxQuorra and @SweViver do you have any information about that and a possible 110hz PiTool release window?
Edit: I am fine with the 72hz in Alyx at the moment even though I maxed it out on the 5k+.
None the less more Hz don’t hurt and I will play what ever my 2080TI manages to shuffle out the DP door (Edit2 I just played and it really looks awesome with no PP and a large bit of SS in Steam - but some shadows and liquid are bogus - the rest is very sharp)
Honestly a new firmware release should be done soon as even with the 5k+ firmwares have Alphas out.
Marcin’s post in that thread though points that it shouldn’t have been advertised as there still verifying with Panel Manufacturers for capability. Suggesting we may end up like the 5k+ find out some will not be able to hit the 110hz like the first 5k+(202) cannot hit 120hz and not likely the 140/144hz of the 203/204.
That would be a very bad mess as this is not a potential add on. But an advertised feature at time of consumer sale.
Yes not available Lots of people ask me about this after my review of it…since I talk about 90hz and incoming 110…but they see 110 on the website
I feel bad to say that they are advertising it but it is not yet released
I was one of the first ones here to have my 8k+ shipped from Pimax, and yeah, 90hz is the best I’ve seen on it, been waiting for that to see if I notice the difference.
