I’m currentely using 4k + nolo + 1070ti
But i’m having too many trouble with tracking quality and controllers
So I’m considering to get 5k+ with vive tracking system
(Also want to experience more FOV too)
What i want to know is approximately what percentage of gpu power does 5K+
need to get the same level of clarity like on pimax 4k
If 5k+ require over 50% of more gpu usage, I may need to rethink
I have the 4K with a 1080ti and I was usually able to run games at high settings. With the 5K+ I was unable to do that, however the picture was much better so I was happy with the settings closer to mid. Some games I have to sacrifice fps for better clarity in image though.
It depends on the game . For example I got a Pimax Xr oled with 2560x1440 per eye , an rtx 2080 ti overclocked to 2080mhz on the core and 7800mhz on the memory , an intel 9900k @ 4.7 ghz and I am getting only 29 fps in No Mans sky and Seeking dawn on High Settings , gpu usage 85% , pi tool render 1.0 and steam SS 120% .
Other games do run okay , but I cant get 82 fps on Onward at max settings . ( shame)
Pavlov runs fine with 82 fps maxed out
Robo Recall runs with 70 fps maxed out an msaa 2x ( not good )
Asgarts Wrath is also running not optimal at around 56 fps maxed out ( ingame res scale on 1/2 )
I still cant play Defector because of wrong colours and height calibration -.-
You will need an rtx 3080 ti ATLEAST to be able to run games at those fps that I am getting right now with your pimax 8k X
I dont want to go in a debate about quality you cant even see since the headset cannot really display it.
It would be just like wanting to display ANTS on the ground…just because!!! Cant see them? nevermind, the graphics are running at max with steam supersampling at 600% ! yeah baby!
Yes of course, that is what I mean by the “ants” but SuperSampling is the most demanding and ants wont be displayed anyways.
And eye candy the headset cannot display + resolution it cannot either is + both related…
Hi rez textures displayed on a panel that would barely be able to display them full screen (and its not since it actually a very small part of it) is waste or gpu ressources, just like watching a 4k movie on a hd screen.
And the question is be able to run it.
So is my answer by someone who was running a 8k with 1060gtx6go and figured out Pitool rendering was less demanding and more efficient that SS, a year ago, even more…and nobody listened.
But recently some people figured it out also here : https://community.openmr.ai/t/best-quality-settings-for-steamvr-ive-found/22614
