Whether I am watching a movie or playing a game/demo, after a few minutes the center position has drifted away and I have to break my neck to see stuff or access options.
I am currently playing Subnautica. During play already, the gyros start to drift. They’ll reach like 45 degrees within an hour of play. If I have to take it off to go to the kitchen or the bathroom for instance, orientation will be off by like 45-90 degrees when I put them back on.
The same thing happens when watching movies as well. I have to regularly stop everything and to SteamVR’s Room Setup and this is very annoying. The Quick Recalibrate won’t work with the Pimax, it puts the headset onto the floor.
This never happened with the Rift, thanks to the head tracker. If you used gyros, then you must also give us a way to recenter their position quickly. Like use the useless on/off button on the headset to reset its position to what it was the last time we performed a Steam Room Setup.
Hi the reason Roomscale in SteamVR puts headset on the floor is due to PiMax headset not having positional tracking. There is nothing to tell the calibration how high the headset is off the floor.
Check the game/player to see if there is a control you can bind to your gamepad(if using one) or keyboard shortcut. There is a post about recenter bind to gamepad in Elite Dangerous. If your using SteamVR theater to watch a movie i believer there is a control by looking down n focus on recenter. If Using SteamVR overlay pause game using steam/home button in setting gear there is reset seat position.
I think there might also be a keyboard hotkey… Will look when i get a chance
Thank you. I’ve seen it in the release thread, but it is not the right way to do it imho. From what I saw, if for instance in Subnautica I start to swim sideways, I would have to remove the headset, alt-tab from the game, find the application and the page that has the “recenter” option, click it, then alt-tab back into the game, put the headset back on, and hope that the centering hasn’t moved since the time I clicked on the option. Most of the time it’s when the headset is moved outside the head that the loss of centering occurs.
For Subnautica specifically, they have added the F2 key that allows me to recenter from within the game without removing the headset or risking to crash the game by alt-tabbing. Other games, and all the movie viewer that I know of do not have an integrated hotkey, since when you have a base station and IR markers on the headset, this loss of centering does not occur.
It would be better imho if you implemented a global hotkey to recenter the headset, like Alt-Shift-Ctrl-F10 to recenter from within any application, or a single or double-click on the on/off button on the headset.
Hi, appreciate your brilliant feedback. Actually we’re testing this shortcut or function for push button reset rather than “recenter” in Piplay setting, we will see in the further verison.
