How do games look like when not running in Pi Max native 4K resolution?

Say you have 4K screen and you want to run a game on it in 1440p or 1080p because your PC can’t handle 4K, I read in a lot of threads that running games in those non-native resolutions results in blurriness.

I’m guessing alot of Pi Max users are playing games in 2K for the moment due to compatibility and performance issues. How do those games looks on the PiMax’s 4K display? Are they crisp and sharp? Has anyone tried the Vive or Oculus, how do your experience on PiMax compare to those HMDs?

The screen native resolution is 38402160 two eyes, If the PC GPU signal below 4K, eg 25601440, the Hardware inside Pimax headset is automatically upscaling 25601440 data to 38402160, despite what kind of input resolution, the final driver to Native 4K screen is always 3840*2160 resolution. so the screen quality is crisp and sharp. no blurriness issues at all.

So, provided that we have 38402160 compatible GPUs such gtx 1080 etc and once you guys get the 60FPS compression working, we can game set the resolution to 38402160 in game?

Will asynchronous 90 fps be function in 4k once you get the 4k screen running at it’s full 60hz refresh rate?

We use 4K screen mainly aim to eliminate the SDE. the HMD could receive 2K singnal and high-order upscale to 4K automatically. you get good VR game performace with 2K input, and get quite good screen quality (almost Non SDE) with 4K display out.

4K VR game is much heavier than standard 4K 2D game, even for the upcoming GTX1080 Ti. we have internally test the 4K VR game with GTX1080, the FPS drops a lot.

So we think 2K input and 4K display output is optimal tradeoff between current GPU performance and VR SDE(screen door effect) issue. you will get quite good screen quality base this configure.

asynchronous 90fps function already be enabled as present, same with 4K.

Just to be clear, the unit is incapable of being driven at 4k 60hz natively?

The answer is no, the HDMI 1.4 port is unable to push 4K at 60hz. Instead you provide it with a lower resolution which is then up-scaled.

They could push 4k 60hz thrpugh 1.4b if they would enable chroma subsampling. I just saw some through the lens video of this thing. It looks like there is no SDE. The only thing stopping me from buying is a lack of native 4k support. I would own this for movies if it ran 4k 60hz. A native 4k signal would make movies look near 720p in terms of actual quality through the lens.

Even on basic game settings the display still looks amazing. Of all my complaints about the Pimax, the display is the thing they got right!

Hi. I have just got the pimax and tried it on steam version of elite dangerous and I am getting an obvious sde. The text is very pixely. I am using piplay 1.2.75, what am I doing wrong everyone says it’s crystal clear mine is not.
