HMD Chart - Spec Comparison

Totally agree.

This Steam list of the most popular HMDs canā€™t be correct with Pico 4 and Quest 2. A lot of Pico users prefer Virtual Desktop instead of standard Pico assistant due to the fact that pico software is sh*t. And Virtual Desktop emulates it as Quest 2 for SteamVRā€¦

A small correction for the chart.

The $1699 MeganeX headset doesnā€™t have adjustable diopter, only the more expensive ā€˜Business Editionā€™ has it.

This was revealed on a Youtube video by Sadlyitsbradley after CES and now appears confirmed on their website also.

Note the MeganeX diopter column on the shiftall website is blank, yet the ā€˜Business Editionā€™ isnā€™t.

So 3 headsets need updating. Apple Vision, Bigscreen Beyond and Somnium VR1.

Actually I need to add the XTAL 4.

Please tell me more. Is there a new XTAL?

Rumoured, yes. We know this after AWE when Hypervision announced a new partnership with Somnium Space who joins VRgineers and Lynx.

As VRgineers specialise in wide FOV headsets I would imagine XTAL 4 being the first HMD to use the lenses from Hypervision.

Hypervision themselves mentioned XTAL 4 in a recent interview so we know itā€™s a thing.

Ah ok, so itā€˜s a rumour from a show floor for now :+1:

Iā€™d be really interested in a VRgineers HMD if it werenā€™t for @Djonkoā€™s lacklustre impressions.

But if they manage a considerably smaller form factor at high ppd and large FOV whilst not creating friction on the sw and driver stack level, Iā€™m all in.

Hopefully we get a XTAL 4 announcement by the end of this year but I donā€™t think weā€™ll see a headset until 2024.

I donā€™t think weā€™ll see a headset from Lynx or Somnium using these lenses until 2025.

Ive added Visor to the list. No real specs yet apart from 4k displays. Not really a gaming headset so nothing to get too excited about.

Bumping this thread as news of an Meta/LG partnership have emerged. Iā€™ll add this HMD as rumoured.

LG & Meta Partnership? Valve must be pissed after they bailed on them with Ultragear.

Ive updated the Chart to include the rumoured Pico5 Pro Max. This is the headset Iā€™m looking forward to most but the 12k and Index 2 are up there in my top 3.

The P5PM has everything apart from ultra wide FOV. From Display port to wireless. Size and weight. Eye tracking and face tracking. An eye watering resolution and all comes in at a reasonable affordable price. Its THE killer headset that ticks every box bar 1.

for me, if i dont see a min 120-130 FOV
i typically ALWAYS ignore it.

i hear 90-100 FOV and its on my ignore list no matter what.
To me, i find FOV to be very important to me.

But yea, the pico 5 max had my attention too.
