My current Pimax cable sometimes drops video signal, after seeing a teardown video I’ll be replacing the cables but before i start a few questions:
1: honestly can’t tell if its micro USB or mini USB on the PCB connection from online. anyone know for certain?
I was thinking I’d run very short USB/HDMI cables into a hub that would sit on (or in, depending on size) the HMD then out to the PC.
2: Or is there a replacement cable similar to pimaxs but more durable and longer? say 5m (14-15feet)
3: If i go the hub route anyone know of any hubs that could do 4k 60 and 3x USB in?
as it would be Pimax 1xHDMI 1xUSB, Nolo 1xUSB, LeapMotion 1xUSB.
and because it wasn’t complex enough have some mic in solution for a modmic.
I’m half tempted to sell it all and just hedge my bets on the 8k or something lol But i do love ghetto setups.
If i can just find the right hub or option that would make roomscale a ton smoother, if i can get it all going ill make a video on it. Problem being is Finding the right hub so many of them have boatloads of useless extras (SD card readers etc).
Otherwise ill go the simple route of just replacing the hdmi and usb, however i still haven’t found a combination cable like the Pimax has.
Generally I’ve seen other threads where people have multiple cables To a hub near their PC, i just figured if I’m gonna go to the effort of disassembly i might as well look at potential modding options.
I know the hub route is a long shot and I’m guessing the issue comes down to power. Is it just not feasible to get all those connections down to one cable and power it away from the HMD? i could look at a compact battery pack to mount on it.
Open to suggestions.

The usb is i believe Micro Usb (98% certain).
I have never tried the headaet using a hub. I would reccommend using a usb 3 hud connected to usb3 on mb for more stable bandwidth & power. A battery pack to power hub. Would likely work well. But you’d need to test.
Hdmi i would try something like this i bought for $16 Canadian at Canada computers (haven’t tested yet.
Keep in mind the headset’s input is 1440p or in low spec mode 1080p.
fair enough but while a repeater would help with extending the cable it wouldn’t help the fact the current one is definitely dodgy so there wouldn’t be much point in going through a repeater when id be replacing the complete cable anyway.
Does nobody make combination hdmi/usb cables similar to the included pimax?

The repeater idea is just to make it easier for length.
The hdmi inside is micro i believe. Haven’t seem a dual cable. Maybe try a google search. Cablemods might have something.

awesome, thanks though weirdly got directed to the Russian version of aliexpress and looks fairly broken on desktop
so i can’t quite tell if it can carry 4k across i know its only 1440p upscaled but id imagine using anything sub 4k would either not work or introduce more issues.
Anyway ill search around the regular aliexpress more.
It’s difficult to find those combined cables since searching for both 99% of the time gets you “micro usb To hdmi” and so on lol ill update if i can track down a suitable hub to test.

Agreed but keep in mind the cable just needs to be hdmi 1.4b
The 4k headset doesn’t support 4k 60hz input. If the headset supported 4k input due to hdmi 1.4b it could only support it at 30hz as per the first gen 4kTV.
hm some hubs come close but are all video out, doubtful id find a passthrough with usbs.
Seems like id have to make my own which i don’t know nearly enough to do so.
Anyway the cable you linked is both micro hdmi/usb to regular hdmi/usb. i do have a micro hdmi to regular hdmi adapter not 100% sure if ital fit.
it’s also only 1.5meters. spent the last hour trying to find the same cable on the regular site, their mobile site may list extras that aren’t on the regular one. Really strange.

I haven’t had mine apart in a bit. But i believe it is mico Hdmi or mini.
No looking a vid looks to be full size.
