The Index has RGB panels and the Pimax 8K has the funky pentile panels, so the Index’s SDE is probably going to be better on the eyes than the P 8K but what about comparing the Index and Pimax 8K regarding “SDE noticeability” in videos. Im so tired of seeing the SDE when viewing video content. I know we cant completely avoid it just yet but hopefully the Index SDE will be better in terms of noticeability. Thanks!
Probably better on the Index, but it would not be a fair comparation, as the Index has screen filters that soften the final image leading to a less perceived SDE, similar to the Odyssey+ but much less noticeable.
Thanks, yea I found this as well, its looks good for low to no SDE but I can find a website that sells it. I couldnt find the DVPR 4K unit on the DPVR website??
sounds like a pimax 4k, also no 6dof tracking, low sde, 4k panel for both eyes and 110° fov
its just 2 year old tech, slightly better then google cardboard or samsung gear vr
The P4K is upscaled. For less than 300 USD it’d be a good deal for people who can live with the limitations, otherwise the Reverb is way better. No physical IPD adjustment in both cases.
It’s only on their chinese website.
The 4K is a great deal all things considered. I cant see any SDE in it, and quality of picture through lens wise, its about even with a Gear VR minus SDE
I can see the diffuser film on my Oculus Rift CV1 one now after using the 4K.
I dont notice the abscence of positional tracking so much, because I do seated and sim games, but you can pick up a 4k on ebay for $70. Its an unbeatable deal at that price.
Well, my 4K (bought 2nd hand) was really disappointing. The ghosting was terrible, useless for any gaming. Probably worth it for watching movies only.
The clarity is great, right. No fresnels, I really did want to use it for gaming, so I removed the shutters. That gave me a much brighter picture, but exchanged ghosting with pixel smear.
IMHO, a 4K with a new low-persistent capable panel - if cheap enough - would be a good start into VR. Even without 6DOF tracking.
But, honestly spoken Pimax’s Software must improve significantly to be a real alternative to the big players. I like my pimaxes, but love my Index.
Their software would be a lot better if they would simply re enable the option for extended mode in pitool.
The LUT for the HMD in the software is not good, I would prefer to set it myself.
The preset brightness and contrast sliders go from dim to completely blown out. The panel itself is fine.
I tested this (while I could get it working) with an old Piplay, and ghosting was significantly better (with shutter glass) with a high brightness as set by Nvidia control panel, as opposed to their software’s pre determined settings. Sharpness and saturation too was also greatly improved.
I myself am not as bothered by the ghosting due to the price (in my case) and PPD bump. Standard aspherical lenses are also superb.
I made suggestions before they announced 8K that they should just improve the 4K 1st.
If they were to put the as yet unknown 8K vision? guts into a 110 degree (maybe 120) HMD with proper bridge chip, lighthouse tracking, and native resolution. it would beat everything available. Dual element aspheres with lower magnification could also lessen distortion, and give an even higher ppd bump.
p4k was my first VR headset and one thing was really wrong with it is ghosting and tiny sweet spot.
the scale was off too. was like slightly zoomed out compared to new Pimaxies…
@Matthew.Xu I’d also like to make the request for extended mode to be re implemented into the latest version of Pitool.
