Half-life Alyx is a perfect example that PCVR needs more AAA games than better hardware to get more people onboard the VR bandwagon .
True! Heard an interview with Gabe where he meant Alyx was not so much for earning lots of money but more for testing their assumptions in the field, to see whether they are on the right track (the one from IGN where he also talks about his expectations regarding direct neural interfaces https://community.openmr.ai/t/facebooks-research-into-hyper-realistic-human-full-body-tracking-avatars-is-pretty-amazing/26871/4?u=noamloop). Thatās a luxury not all studios might be able to finance. But the more people have VR equipment the higher the likelyhood will become - and the more people will have VR equipment⦠Hope we are at a turning point now or soon where this becomes a positive feedback loop.
I found Half-life a very easy game to play and it definitely felt like an old school FPS . There are a lot of games out there that would be awesome in VR . As soon soon as a game studio thinks it can make a profit switching or updating an existing game to VR why wouldnāt they . VR is here to stay and it will definitely have some major growth in the next few years .
Yeah, letās hope that āwould be awesome in VRā and āis financially viableā is merging more and more for AAA applications.
Even though Alyx and Pavlov might be more immersive, Counter Strike, Fortnite, CoD & Co still have āa fewā more potential players and thus customers that can be reached. (Besides Alyx these are not my type of games but Iām not the reference here )
But times will change - question is - when?
I completely agree . FarCry , Metro and Bioshock just to name a few would be awesome to relive in VR .
I know Iām in the minority but Duke Nukem Forever!! And of course the classic Duke Nukem 3D!!
I guess I would be as well. One of the early fps or perhaps the first to have a mirror. I recall shooting tge mirror. Lol
Battlefield-VR-Version (smaller Maps only or inf only, if necessary) and crossplay, to fill up the Maps, with the mechanics of contractorsā¦.
I believe the source code for Duke Nukem 3D is now public domain so Iām a bit surprised that no Duke Nukem geek out there (and there are plenty of them) hasnāt converted it to Unreal or something and got it going properly in VR!
Ports of older games to VR would be amazing. I for one would like to see Crysis games ported to VR. The scenery and graphics quality were groundbreaking, not to mention the way the gameplay (recharging health) allowed them to be explored.
Indeed. I wish they would even just go back and redo the Multiplayer in Crysis and Warhead as Gamespy Arcade is no more crippling some great multiplayer action.
As i wrote Before the game i most want is remake Crysis 1 in VR.
Alyx has shown that one study could make a good Bioshock with the Source 2 engine, even Bioshock Infinite.
Bioshock 1 for VR is my dream since Oculus DK1 Kickstarter
oooooooh Bioshock⦠just imagine!!
Letās us go back further and get System Shock in VR
Then there is Dead Space which would be great too.
I wonder how Duke Nukem VR would fair in todayās climate
Oldy but a goody
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
Wish some would bring out a game like this, with the source 2 engine.
A good number of those is listed to work with VorpX: Supported Games - vorpX - VR 3D-Driver for Oculus Quest, Rift, Valve Index and other PCVR headsets
And for others even mods exist - like Halflife 2: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/e8g864/detailed_guide_halflife_2_campaign_in_vr_via/
But sure, native support can be a lot better, as Alyx has proven!
Btw.: Some modders have apparently made Alyx playable as a flat game: GitHub - r57zone/Half-Life-Alyx-novr: SteamVR & TrueOpenVR driver for Half-Life-Alyx for playing without VR / Š“ŃŠ°Š¹Š²ŠµŃ Š“Š»Ń ŠøŠ³ŃŃ Š±ŠµŠ· VR
I assume this wonāt be able to compete with the VR experience - but hey, better than nothing for those who are destined to stay out of VR.
Duke Nukem Biohazard VR
āIām viral, baby!ā
