For anyone that is desperate for HLA, there is a cracked copy out there now.

apparently the controllers i believe connect ‘through’ the pimax to Steam and not directly - so it does not expose 100% of the telemetry to Steam it was part of this telemetry that Valve was using to detect index controllers to determine half-life eligibility
Are they detected if plugged into USB ?
yes but for alyx valve was going off actual usage stats
So @drowhunter’s handfull of uses on his pimax headset with 2nd hand controllers from ebay is a mystery.
They’d have to be to receive firmware update. Why it seems even Steam Support having inconsistencies in how they address tickets regarding this.
Deployment in general from steam has not been as stated as Refunded controllers and 2nd hand purchases were not supposed to receive and reports at least earlier of ppl receiving extra free copies connecting controllers to a 2nd steam accounts.
Core is both have equal responsibility in this Index Issue. As PimaxUSA’s assurance of Automagic detection did not go unabated. One user has suggested how both parties should have handled this with a supplied game code.
Likely how Vive Cosmos Pro? Is likely receiving Alyx.
Whatever that means. All I am saying is my IC’s were recognized right away (fresh out of the box) by Steam, I didn’t need to give a SR#. They paired immediately and have worked flawlessyly for months in dozens of Steam and Oculus titles. There were a couple of exceptions like Doom VR but that was lack of IC support in the game.
Just a question with Alyx. Did you receive the free copy without connecting to a Vive or Index headset? Just with using with your pimax 5k+?
Yep. Almost immediately on pre-release, the game showed up in my library. Don’t own an Index hmd and only hooked up my Vive once last summer to verify it worked (bought used for the V1 bases and the crappy wands).
I suspect the reason my Alyx showed up right away was because i bought my ICs through Steam on my Steam account.
Yeah that would bypass the issue as that was originally the only way to receive Alyx prior was a steam store purchase.
I suspect like all support, the problem many are having comes from the lack of knowledge not only by Pimax support, but also Steam support. Their people can be just as uniformed as Pimax’s.
Pimax never asked the technical way Valve was going to make the determination - if they had, they would have realized it was not going to work due to the way Pimax works with the index controllers - that being the case, they could have told plan F people to open a ticket with Steam and provide serial numbers to get the game added as soon as the package arrived – instead I was told for the last three weeks not to worry - that the game is going to show up, when there was literally zero chance of it doing so without giving the serial numbers to steam and have them add the game manually.
Then, with less than a couple of days before release, we are suddenly told to all start opening tickets with steam to provide serial numbers if you want the game unlocked.
And then that is the way to go. As far as Pimax being inept-what else is new?
They did however ask Valve if pimax IC qualified and they said yes. So both handled this poorly. As @MrScopi said it should have been with deploying Steam codes. The same way steam did with Gamestop with Steamcontroller launch free games with purchase.
Valve originally wasn’t deploying Alyx outside of direct Steam Index purchases.
Yeah the Coo shouldn’t have sluff off this possible deployment issue.
Unfortunately, the gaming community does not recognize Pimax, and you will have to adapt to the games … maybe you will develop a game developer support program by renting Pimax devices to everyone (on the terms?) To adapt official support …
I tried again. Now I know my configuration is good… but something is weird.
In PP and large FOV, without automatic resolution in Steam VR. When I enter the first seconds in Steam Home everything is ultra sharp, and after 5 seconds the image get blurry.
The automatic resolution setting in SteamVR options, that sets your global supersampling “once”, based on how sexy your hardware is considered, is its own separate thing, that is not at all related to the dynamic quality scaling that occurs in SteamVR Home (…and presumably Half-Life Alyx), and which adjusts render resolution and antialiasing level on-the-fly, as a reaction to the application lagging behind the target refresh rate.
Steam Home use it too?? I know half life use it. When I entered in the game, it feels sharper. But steam home is a mess. I didn’t know super sampling don’t affect Steam Home.
