Im trying to find a way to disable adaptive resolution.
Found this config file (video.txt), seems not to have the option for adaptive/dynamic resolution, but still some interesting lines here:
(…\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Half-Life Alyx\game\hlvr\cfg)
These are the kind of files I used to edit back in the day . That’s how I got my nickname Formatter . I would keep crashing my machine and have to format it .There days I am reluctant to touch them
Every time my steamvr update the maxresolution is overwrote. Do you know how to avoid that?
Hmm mine havent changed for a long time. Are you sure you are editing the correct file? (there are 2 locations and only one of them is used, kinda random which one it is).
Also, dont put the line in the bottom of the steamvr bracket. For some reason it can disappear having it added in the bottom.Just keep it in the middle somewhere.
Btw I always have a shortcut to the settings file on my desktop. Frequently checking it before I start SteamVR.
I fixed my wireframe pic problem by repairing the installation btw.
The MaxResolution setting does indeed get overwritten. Happenes to me too.
Just added it again so I can try large FOV with PP on.
Quit SteamVR before you edit the file.
Then start SteamVR again, and close it.
Check the file. Is the line still there?
Opening and closing keeps it there. Just updating not.
Do you guys get a low GPU memory warning too? I get it with normal and Large FOV with PP on.
I got a 2080 TI so it shouldn’t be short on memory usually.
The Index also uses PP on by default as a hidden setting. But performance hit is lower due to less Canting. Devs need to program to support rendering on canted displays.
Have you tried hooking them up via Usb to do a firmware update? As Steam needs to recognize them to update
Well we don’t all have computers of your magnitude. More like a compromise than a workaround.
That said, I’m quite pleased with how it looks to me for my settings and prefer to play it, rather than tweak it to death. Especially when Pimax keeps moving the goal posts. I leave that to you influencers .
Also don’t have the eyesight you do (clear the way-old guy coming through ),
They don’t use that to measure that you have them. Otherwise everyone could just plug them in and get it. It’s done by tracking usage stats which they won’t get due to Pimax not exposing the controller directly to steam.
Well the hardware survey is what they use to know what you have as outlined in the Steam Hardeare survey.
And a few users had it show in their survey. With them plugged in you can play some seated games as well.
I get a low GPU memory warning when I set the graphics to High, switching to Ultra results in a warning about surpassing the recommended settings, but I played for 3 hours yesterday and it ran perfect.
There does seem to be a memory leak of some kind. The higher i set the sooner the game crashes. Tis why i lowered some of the more demanding things like shadows.
Underground was intense with all the explosions.
“default.vrsettings” is overwritten every time SteamVR updates; “steamvr.vrsettings” is not - put your custom settings there.
Any parameter that has exactly the same value in both files is deemed redundant, and automatically removed from “steamvr.vrsettings”.
I saw that I had it well configured but with 8192 instead of 16000. I don’t know if this is the problem.
but the issue is that the ‘automation’ they were using to provision HL:ALYX was not using this, but instead going off usage stats’ - and because Pimax does not push those to Steam it means essentially anyone connecting an index controller thru pimax was not going to get detected
if you look at the images I posted recently with the dialog i am having with Steam Support it clearly states they go off “Index Controller Usage”
bottom line: Pimax should have done a little more due diligence and asked valve exactly how the detemination of “if you have an index you will get Alxy” is made - then they would have realized that nobody using the Pimax and Index controllers would trigger detection and would need to provide serial numbers to support and be added manually
i’ve still not heard back from steam after sharing my serial numbers with them and the game is still not in my library.
Only if your target resolution, all Pi Quality, and SteamVR supersampling settings, all taken into account, is OVER EIGHT-THOUSAND-ONE-HUNDRED-AND-NINETY-TWOOOOOOOO!!! :7
And yet we have an ebay purchase whom had not used it on Vive headset or Index and received it.
I am using Pimax and ICs and they were detected right away so not sure what you’re saying here.
