GTX1080 video cards

Hello,
I haven’t yet received my Pimax and I would like to ask a question.
I have a new powerful pc that includes a GEFORCE GTX1080 graphics card.
I have read that there may be some issue with series10 cards, so am I likely to have any problems when my unit is delivered?

Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Luke

I have the ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 8GB ROG STRIX Graphics Card (STRIX-GTX1080-A8G-GAMING) and have not had issues using it with the PIMAX.

My system is running Windows 10 Pro x64.

OS: Windows 7
GPU: MSI GTX 1080
I’ve experienced a lot of VR games on Pimax 4K.

Hi and thank you all for your replies.
Good to hear that you’re PIMax units are working well.

My card is also a ASUS STRIX-GTX1080-A8G-GAMING on a system with a Maximus VIII Hero Alpha ROG mother board, i7-6700K CPU, 16GBytes RAM and two 512GB SSDs. Running Windows 10 Pro x64.

Are there any steps that you could recommend for me to do to be ready to go when my PIMAX unit arrives in the not too distant future (I hope).

I would like to be able to play SteamVR as well Oculus ganes as well as view movies.
Since I have a bit of time, anything I can do to have my system ready would be helpful.

Thank you for your help and suggestions.

Cheers,
Luke

I think the main things to do to be ready would be to:

  1. Install all of the Windows 10 updates
  2. Install the latest Nvidia Game Ready drivers
  3. Download the latest version of PiPlay

You could install Steam and Steam VR but it might make sense to wait so you can run room setup after you have verified the PIMAX works with PiPlay.

I don’t know about the Oculus games. I have not used them.

You may have to rip or convert your movies depending on what format they are in and what player software you are going to use.

Hi Dzeek,
Thanks for your reply and advice.
I’ll post a result once my unit arrives and I have a chance to give it a try.

It shipped on the 28th so it shouldn’t be much longer. Though it’s a long way from China to Australia.

Cheers,
Luke

I got a question for all you GTX 1080 owners, the documents say that only the GTX 1080 can allow for real 4K Rez change in Extend mode, I want to know if that is true, it should be 3840 × 2160 at 30fps, which should be ok for virtual desktop, and movies

I would like to answer but I don’t understand how to check. Could you please provide instructions? Thank you.

Hi VRKommando,
Hopefully I’ll be able to try when my PiMax arrives (soon I hope).
The GTX1080 can certainly handle the resolution easily.
Cheers, Luke
