2 days ago i bought a Pimax 5k+ on Ebay. Today my Pimax arrived :). First i was a little bit disappointed. I started Skyrim and even with SS on max. everything was a little bit blurry. This was on the large FoV. I also tried normal. It remained more or less the same experience. Then i tried out small FoV and was blown away. It is incredibly crisp. Therefore i assume that only some resolutions really make the pic sharp? Even higher SS can be less crisp? Or does it really alter with the different fov sizes? I guess it have to be order 2 resolutions. I will try to find fitting resolutions for large and normal fov, or has someone already figured that out? (my current settings, PiTool 1.0, FoV small, and Steam SS manual override 1.0, Skyrim VR SS on max = superior image)
Besides this, Subnautica isn’t running for me. I got the free epic store version, it run first, but doesn’t work with large or normal fov. Currently it crashes my steam vr on startup, leaving to an error like “HMD over usb as mirrored device” or something like that. Is anyone playing successfully Subnautica?
@Indubious thx i will give it a try! I already play Skyrim with some mods, primarily graphical ones and one for bug-fixing. I like to enjoy the vanilla gameplay on master difficulty.
@Heliosurge, My Specs are : Core I7 8700 K (4,7 Ghz on all cores), 16 GB DDR 4 3200, RTX 2080 OC - Games running on a SSD
From my understanding, the PiTool Setting reports a native res to SteamVr when set to 1.0. That’s why some people where confused when they got those incredible high res values in Steam VR for SS 1.0 when they set PiTool 2.0. So actually PiTool on 1.0 and Steam SS on 1.0 should be the native Res of the Headset. So it could be maxRecommendedResolution Setting which limits the Headset resulting in the blurrier image on large FoV. But i bet using the large FoV with a similar Res like im doing right now in small will be too demanding for my system. So i’ll go with small in Skyrim + max. SS ingame, leaving the steam ss and pitool to 1, it’s really enjoyable this way. Again, like on my original Vive, the right Supersampling makes all the difference, which crispiness i even prefer over the largest FoV, at least currently. There is still so much to explore and fiddle with, but that’s somethin i was expecting from the Pimax 5k+.
So i’ve been trying to get realistic resolutions, but the reported values in steam vr seem to be broken and not realistic. They are just too high for the “both eyes values”. I’m using the Steam advanced settings and actually like to handle the ss myself. I don’t get motion sick easily and like things to run in Brainwarp specs with higher ss all the time, therefore the automatic option is just not made for me.
Pimax should really clear things up regarding SS and make things easier.
