General HDMI console support

Hi there,
I am in the edge of placing an order for this Pimax 4K VR, but I wanted to confirm something.

I know I will need to use my computer and their different options for 3D, and tracking… but if I wanted to, could I plug it into my Xbox one to play with the hmd immersion (I understand 3D and tracking wouldn’t be supported), does it have general compatibility for generic hdmi input support?

Also, how is the reputation for good pixels.
I know it’s always a concern if you pay this much and it arrives with dead or stuck pixels… if something g like that happened would they take care of you?

Thanks
Chris

I gaurentee you will receive a faulty product and want to send it back, You also wont get any refund of your shipping costs

I can not agre on that coment. I am very happy of product.
Most coments are done by unhappy customers, say 8 out of 10 and thouse how are happy only post there coments at rate of 0.2 ot of 10 - this is statistics.

I dont thin it suports xboxone, but how knows, maybe firmware cold be made to do this.

I don’t believe you can plug it into your Xbox and have it work. Something needs to reformat the display into a SBS compatible format for the PIMAX (or any other VR headset). Currently, software on a Windows PC with the necessary hardware and performance is needed for this. It would be theoretically possible for the Xbox to do it if someone writes the software and the Xbox has the necessary performance to handle it. I doubt this will happen.

I haven’t noticed any dead pixels on my PIMAX. I don’t believe I have seen any other forum posts from others about dead pixels. I have seen posts that some people have received units with blurry lenses. I think your only option if you get a unit with dead pixels or blurry lenses is to make sure you can return it to the seller before you buy.

I am happy with my PIMAX so far. Before installing PiPlay and the PIMAX 4k, I did a clean install of Windows 10 x64 and made sure to install all of the updates and the latest Nvidia drivers. My system uses the ASUS GTX 1080 STRIX graphics card. I then carefully followed the PIMAX installation instructions. I had a few issues until the firmware was updated and PiPlay was updated to the current release of 1.1.174. Now it works well. I see no screen door effect. The quality of the images is comparable to what I see using my Xperia Z5 Premium (4k screen) in a Google Cardboard compatible headset, which is excellent. The brightness is not as high as the Z5 screen but it is acceptable and may actually be better for my eyes. I am nearsighted and have to take off my glasses to use the PIMAX. I did not have to do this with the Z5 because the headset has a focus knob.

I do think you need to experiment a bit with the PIMAX to get it to work and be willing to investigate when you have problems. It’s challenging because there is not a lot of information published by the PIMAX support team and the Google Translate of the posts on the Chinese forum are hard to interpret.

This is all interesting to me. I got the PIMAX because I wanted 4K image quality, I wanted to experience PC driven VR, and didn’t want to wait until the next gen headsets are released in 2017. The PIMAX seemed like a good solution and, so far, it has proved out.

Hi everyone. Thank you for your replies, I was going to place my order last night but decided to sleep on it… I still am in the edge, and definitely understand all of your thoughts, and am sorry about the experience the first person who replied had with the Pimax.

One more cautionary tale I read, was that sometime people are shipped the one with Chinese firmware and it won’t let you install the English software (gives an international error), is this something I should be concerned about? And is it fixable.

Also regarding any pixel issues,
You mentioned the company doesn’t do refunds and for exchanges you have to pay for shipping… beyond that, will they at least exchange if there are pixel issues. In the past I had an experience where a company told me it’s only something they would address if it had more than so many pixels at fault.

FYI, I updated my post today with some more info on Xbox and dead pixels. Please re-read it. Good luck if you decide to go ahead! Sorry, I don’t know about the issue you mentioned with the Chinese firmware.

Hi everybody,
And thank you so much for all the input.

I talked to customer support and they said they will replace the unit if it arrived with any pixel issues. Apparently, according to their policy if that happens you have to act within 3 days if you hope for them to cover shipping (the DOA policy)… otherwise as the first poster mentioned the shipping would be at my expense.

They also said I should not have that international issue if I use the English drivers, and in the event of the issue they would assist me in solving it or issue a replacement.

I kept of copy to that conversation… just in case it got in that scenario and something different was suggested than I was told.

Long story short, I took the plunge and ordered the Pimax,. I had an email promotion and got a bit more off the price.
For three hundred us dollars, I decided to take the risk. I had trackIr before and am not too concerned with the lack of built in positional tracking. Also, the less frames per second is ok as I am hugely interested in the virtual Cinama and 360 movies. I am excited to experiment a bit with games, but compared to oculus where I would be over $1000 cad when all said and done, and would need a new computer for the extreme games and positional tracking… I figure I will go Pimax…then in a year or so once oculus has a 4K version I will consider any upgrade options.

Thanks again everyone!
Christopher

I have tried streaming from Xbox one with virtual desktop on pc

Interesting. What happened when you tried it?

Just a big virtual screen, no 3d

Still, that’s awesome I didn’t realize you could stream your xbox to your pc.
Here is more details: Xbox Support

I bet that is still pretty neat an I bet with a large enough virtual screen it can feel very immersive.

Cool, thanks htd2007
