Frametime on pimax4k

Any of you guys ever came closer to 11ms frametime with pimax ? my dcs world stuck on 17ms and all the way up…i was able to achieve 11ms with oculus cv1 with the same pc and tinkering with graphics or resolution wont seem to make much difference. playing flight sims is full of stutter and jitter.

google request “frametime” doesnt really explains what it is, not to mention amount of frames which is definitely not what you’re asking for

need an explanation on what it is and how to measure it

Frametime is the time that 1 frame is being generated or rendered in games etc. Should be as low as possible for smooth gameplay. For example 11miliseconds is the minimal time that a frame must be rendered and displayed to allow 90fps in games like simulators and so on. When the frame time increases the frame is not allowed enought time to render so it skips or drops and when a batch is combined you get stutter or micro freezes in game. It will display 90fps but under the hood its actually much lower framerate. There are many ways to measure it. There’s an option in steamVR or built in game feature like in dcs world.

I think i got it. So basically it depends on your gpu and render type?
If yes, then i got 16.5 ms with the 1.1.92 version that is using steamvr render. Looks like pimax render (17ms as you said) is very similar to steamvr.

1000 milliseconds in a second. Display panel is 60 hz. Now calculate how many milliseconds one frame will last by dividing 1000 by 60

Do the same for Oculus: 1000/90. I think you’ll understand

you are right …appears there is no way around it…the stuttering is overwhelming.i get up to 30ms frametime midgame dropping and skipping so many frames its just unplayable… I wonder how is it that half of the dcs world vr users report unplayable stutter and the other half smooth sailing. two guys with exact system specs and overall tweaking may report different observation…funny thing is that many ultra spec machines report it.
the pimax is ok for simming…wish the refresh rate was higher as mentioned and less ghosting, I was even able to bring the focus to great level… I had to adjust the lenses and cut the upper section of the soft padding. now I am able to wear it closer to my eyes gaining something like 35% peripheral focus its amazing. I wanted to put it in the dumpster when I first used it. oh the most important is IPD adjustment…took me a while but now I can play for hours and the immersion is insane.
I guess the stuttering is a combination of bandwidth , driver and composers then. coming to think about it I used to have micro stutters with amd cpu in deus ex human revolution. I tried everything but in vain. couple of months later amd issued a bios hotfix that addressed this microstutter issue and it was gone just like that.

Have you tried lowering the render in piplay assuming you are not using 1.1.92 and if you are try lowering steamvr supersampling 1 notch? Do the Mico stutters stop?

no joy mate…tried every resolution and dsr and ss setting …low and off and high…same stutter everytime

What system specs do you have?

That is more than enough for 4k vr. You should not have micro stutters. What render do you have set in piplay? As a test have you tried setting everything including render quality to the lowest and running it?

If you have win10 can you go to your setting page (start>settings) and change game dvr to Off as this can impact game lag when it’s enabled.

What version of piplay are you on now?

tried every render setting…now im on 1920X1080 restricted…had the 92 installed…tried 97 and the latest and its always the same effect. now im on 97…

regarding that game dvr im not sure about this one…i havent updated to the creators win10 …have i still got it?

edit: no i dont have that option im still on the previous win 10 version…i saw what you mean on my laptop though

im on a constant 60fps basically but it stutters through…i was able to bring the stutter rate down to every 1 second the lowest. stutter i mean when you look out of the cockpit and the ground just freezes for a split sec and smooths out again

you will only have gamve dvr on creators… you will be getting it some point in the future as M.Soft are rolling it out as a compulsory update.

I have extensive experience with ED game profile settings as i am constantly tweaking mine.

a couple of things to check please.

  1. make sure that steamvr supersampling is set to 1.0 - open steamvr, click options, then developer and check the slider.
  2. tell me your game graphics settings in Elite Dangerous, specifically, shadows, reflections, super sampling, anti aliasing, terrain quality, terrain blending, materials quality, hmd quality

let me know your options and lets see if we can improve on the game stutter
Eno

Just a note try to have min programs running in background unneeded 4 game play

not a single program in the background…

steam ss is X1
actually its dcs world …i dont have the ED installed mate.
i appreciate your help Eno but do you play DCS too? if not its a tough nut to crack…stutter city they call it hehe

Sorry I don’t play DCS, I have ED, war thunder , il2… might try DCS and see how it goes tho
