I just downloaded the Steam VR version of Bigscreen Beta, in order to contrast with the Oculus version, (running it through steam VR)
With my 3gb 1060 I had Steam VR settings operating at 4.0 super sampling. All I can say is HOLY CRAP!
My CV1 looked like an entirely new HMD, (and I run the Oculus home version maxed too.) No contest, Steam VR at 4.0 SS is a massive improvement. It also ran without help.
People are worried about no native resolution on the standard 8k. Steam VR at 4.0 SS is higher than 1440p per eye, and Steam VR is almost maxed out for super sampling.
I dont think we will actually need native resolution, until Steam VR gets updates to take advantage.
This is probably what Pimax meant by “no discernible difference.”
You need to keep in mind we all have to honor our budgets & prioritize our upgrades vs peripherals.
I know myself i had to rearrange my budget to be able to back this(very glad i did). I have the advantage of not having obstacles of my budget choices.
I am also likely needing to upgrade my gpu to really enjoy the 8k. But i am confident the r9 390 will work since my older setup was 2x7950 & functioned well.
I preffer non-supersampled 4k instead of 2k with supersampling, because supersampling creates color distortion. I’m not sure why exactly does this happens, but i think it’s caused by cable bandwidth limitations, which would mean a headset with 2 display ports have higher graphic quality limit with no distortion, but might require even more gpu power.
