[FIXED] 8K Disconnected HMD (10500)

Hi everyone,

Today I got both 8K and 5K+, and I started connecting 8K first. But it doesn’t work. I have fresh Windows 10 Pro installation build 1809 up to date, the newest drivers, AMD R7 2700X, RTX 2080 Ti, 16 GB Ram, installed SteamVR.

First I installed PiTool 1.0.1.91, and updated to .95 version. After reboot I have inserted 8K, but it just wrote Disconnected (10500). At Diagnose it showed that I have not plugged USB and HDMI/DP and not installed vc, but I did have cables properly connected. So I downloaded their vc zip file, but it still showed up disconnected with unpluged cables, so I tried numerous restarts, repluged cables into different ports, but without succes. Than I disabled Power Management both under Power Options and Device Manager on all possible USB Root Hubs, Generic USB Hubs, but still without succes. Than I reinstalled PiTool 1.0.1.91, nothing. Power adapter from 5K+ didn’t help as well.

So as final resort I plugged in 5K+ and it worked at first try with PiTool .91 . Is there something else what should I try? Is my 8K faulty?
Thanks for your time to read my problem, I hope it isn’t anything serious.

Check if the cable on the headset is pushed in all the way.

What @Digital said.

If that doesn’t work, get in touch with support.

How should I check that? I mean it holds pretty stiff, I can’t see through rubber wrapping if it is pushed all the way in.

Should I just try to push cable inside with all my strength and see if that helps? It sounds risky at best, but I guess it helps in some situations if you suggested it.

Remove the face foam (you may have to apply a bit of force). Then you can pull out the cable and push it back in nice and snug.

This was a reported problem but i don’t have my Pimax yet so i can’t tell you how much force is needed and how far in it needs to be but just use some common sense if the cable sticks out at the front of the headset you did it wrong.

Ok, I didn’t know that it can come off like that … so I did that, will try if it helps. Thanks

Well cable didn’t stick out, but I did removed and put it back inside, so I hope it helps  .

It works the same way for the Oculus Rift. Glad I could help.

HALELUYA :joy:. Thank you everyone, you saved me a lot of time and wrinkles on my face. I read somewhere that I should look if cable is properly connected, but it seemed fine so I didn’t bother . And now comes gaming until morning. Once more, thank you everyone that bothered to help me .

I have to send one of them back when they finish 8KX, and until then it will take long time until I fully compare both of them, and I hope that by then all of us will have our own .

@DavidVR , now that you got your 8K sorted and working. Please post your impressions after using them both. What you are liking about each and don’t and which one you will guess will be the one put most to use. That would be really appreciated. Not many have both to offer a comparison. Enjoy getting to know them!

I was thinking about the 8KX too but finally deceided to go for the 8K and now downgraded to the 5K+ hope it was no mistake (fingers crossed).
Now off you go and enjoy your 8K. :+1:

I am not very good in english as it isn’t my native language, or in writing Reviews/Impressions, but I will try my best .

That would be awesome. Been able to understand all you have posted already so don’t see an issue with your english. Certainly good enough for forum use

And not looking for a deep dive. Just a few lines about your initial/first thoughts of the 2. And since you will have the freedom to reach for either, what do you guess will be the one you play with most? That would be great if able. No pressure though man. Enjoy your new toys 1st!
