Firtst Imprerssion

Nice, thank you. have you tried?

Not yet, waiting for my ps move kit to arrive.

I’m looking forward to it

Hi! Thank you for choosing our Pimax. Could u tell me what your problem is plz? We will help you to solve your problem as soon as possible. Thank you so much!

Everything works fine on my pc, but expierience is like looking through a barrel, not really feeling that im there. Tried different IPD settings and it doesnt help. Any advices?

So basicly it works but i wasnt able to play even single game using steamvr, vorpx or tridef:) and it crashes my pc to blue screen of death. And avast sees piplay as a virus  nice beggining

Hi, if you wanna set your IPD, please close your steam first, and then you can set the IPD in your Piplay.
BTW, which system, graphic, diver are u using?

Are you getting the dxgmms2.sys Windows 10 BSOD?

I had that when I was using an older Piplay driver with the new firmware.

Everything was resolved when I ran the latest Piplay Software and latest Firmware.

Recieved the unit few weeks ago… Just was lazy to make a comment here

So, what do we have in Pros and Cons from my opinion… To be frank , more cons than pros actually.
Pros:

  1. 4K screen, you know
  2. Nicely working sensors like acceleration and proximity. At least I didn’t have any troubles for the time I was using it
  3. I generally use prescription glasses (about -4.25) and I’ve got a sharp picture without glasses there
  4. SteamVR support - I didn’t have any trouble using it there
  5. Sufficient response time from my point of view. even it is not perfect - one can see image smearing, when turning head rapidly

And now cons:

  1. Yeah, you know - it is not 4K. And using it in it’s actual 1920x1080 mode is the best way to look into very blurry picture. I do not know why developers didn’t use 4:2:0 mode by default and do not actually have support for that. Again: using it in FullHD mode is not what it was bought for. But I’ve got some info that someone got a picture in 2560 and even 3840, but I wasn’t able to get it as I said.
  2. Brightness… IT IS DIM. As for resolution - maybe there will be any hack from developers, but for the brightness - even I understand it also can be tampered with firmware, but I do not really believe it. I think they would set the brightness on a higher setting if they could
  3. View angle… No, really - it is binoculars you see into actually. It’s view angle is about 65 degrees. It is way off 100-110 degrees stated. I’ve checked it with camera with about 65 degree view angle - it just fit in. And that’s the thing no firmware can change. And yes, it does matter
  4. Software. Really, I didn’t have much trouble in installing the device, but there many people. who had problems with it.

Summary: even the unit works, it is not 4K, it is dim and it has very narrow angle of sight. Sent it back to GearBest, hope to get my money back. What I think of it: it is not a product, it is merely an alpha version of it. It may become a really good product in the future, when Pimax will release version 2 of this VR helmet. But I’m sure there will be no way this particular product become a product actually.

I’ve made a review of it in Russian, maybe someone will be interested in:

What can I suggest for developers:

  1. Make sure people will have 3840 native resolution in all cases
  2. Brighness. Again, it does matter. Dim picture won’t be good in VR - stereoscopic feeling weakens when the brightness is too dim
  3. View angle. Also, it does matter. Most games uses camera with 90 degrees angle of view
