Nice! Now they need to make a chip out of this that can be fed with a 2x480p signal and populates 2x16k panels with plausibly matching super high detail content - and stuff that chip into an HMD. Then we can drive the VR HMDs from tomorrow with the GPUs from yesterday

They can do that, just not at the frame rates we need.
This will be a good option when rendering is offloaded to the cloud. If they could get realtime dynamic super resolution done locally, bandwidth savings would be huge.
