Hi All,
Got an email from Greg Driver regarding his Driver4VR program which now also works with Kinect One as well as Kinect 360.
Just tried it out and it works like a charm.
I’ll have to learn how to set it up properly now, but here’s a pic of me capturing my PC screen.
This is the Driver4VR “Settings” screen. Notice Kinect detects thumb and index finger of my hands.
Pretty cool I thinks
Looking forward to having a play with it tomorrow.
If anyone else has a Kinect and has go with it, please post a comment.
Guys after some reads on the forum I need an advice: It’s best to buy Kinect V2 for room/headtracking with Pimax now that is supported by Driver4VR? Do I need only the pc adaptor to make it work on pc? Thank you very much!
Well Kinect V2 certainly works with Driver4VR, but I’m not sure if it will be enough to produce good body tracking. So far my results have been in conclusive.
I can move around SteamVR Home room a little bit, but it’s hard to get it to be reliable.
I have even ended up under the floor.
It is promising though and if I can somehow set it up properly it may be ok.
It’s interesting to play with but I think something needs a bit more work.
For example, I don’t know what settings to change. Should I do a SteamVR room calibration?
There don’t seen to be any setting to change anywhere that make any difference.
And even if I do get it to work properly, what am I going to do with it?
I’m not really interested in moving around with Pimax and the games I play don’t require it.
I’ll keep fiddling with it for a bit longer, but I don’t think that it will replace Nolo anytime soon unless someone does some more work on the software to support it specifically.
I’ll let you know if anything changes though.
And yes, you will need to but the PC interface kit for it from Microsoft Store or somewhere else. It cost me more than the unit itself so maybe that money may be better spent on a Nolo?
Thank you! I’m having lot troubles calibrating ps3 move/Ps3 eyes and wanted to know If kinect360/V2 can produce a good room for 180° tracking and play Elite Dangerous with a little more immersion. Would be fun to walk in the cockpit also
Yes the PSMove controllers are a bit hard to calibrate and when you do eventually get them calibrated, the drift is terrible. I gave up.
Kinect V2 may work out better, but I need to play around a bit more.
Luke, about your experience do you think for seated/standing game Kinect v2 could be an improvement? and ps3 move controllers can be used with Kinect v2? I would be happy just to make the drift better and having head tracking/hands at 180°. Not sure if can combine Kinect + ps3 eyecam for 360° ?
If Driver4vr could make kinect360 also detect both hands, together with either Bluetooth device or wireless (presenter) mouse simply SteamVR buttons mapping, It will be very nice devices for Pimax VR. I’m keeping my fingers cross. Using Leap Motion, the problems are accuracy and any activity outside the Leap Motion view.
You can definitely have Kinect V2, PEMove controllers and PSEye cameras working at the same time, but Kinect V2 requires a USB3 interface and you would need a fairly high performance PC I think.
My i7 6700K 4.4GHz processor goes up to 30% when Kinect V2 is running and this is with PSMove or PSEye cameras going.
I’m talking to Greg of Driver4VR about this and there may be something that can be done, but it may take a while.
I will continue to post my results as I continue my testing.
Greg from Driver4VR has said that there will be a version for Leap Motion unit available in September and he has a video of this using two low cost bluetooth hand controllers.
Yeh LukeB, I see that and will use it for sure. But the problem, as I told, with Leap Motion, whenever hands are outside its view, controller will be un available. Also clicking buttons are not so accurate.
If we can use any other device just for clicking button as Vive’s pad and let’s Kinect detecting
hand position that might better work, I think.
I have an i7 old gen sandy bridge but still rocking at 4.2Mhz (non K), 16gb ram and a gtx 1080ti…30% only with Kinect and move/cams is high too lol. I want to try cause the drift is insane (atm using 3 ps eye cam/2 move without head-body tracking). Used Big screen to test drift and in 2min while standing moved half way out from the center of cinema… someone posted kinect reduced almost to zero the drift with headtracking. The Xbox360 will do good? maybe less hurt on cpu? thank you
Recently bought a Kinect 360 but only reached minimal effort yesturday evening. As I read it came mainly lighting and distance problems. I’ll give it a try next week again. I cannot figure out how face recognition working with headset on also. Many questions. Only want to play seated mode in Elite Dangerous at this moment with not too much success with head tracking.
Hey everyone this sounds super Promising! I and many others are looking not for full VR positional tracking but simply proper 6DOF Headtracking. I have a trackIR 5 as well as an IR setup using PSEye Camera ala Opentrack.
Could anyone also chime in that this is indeed in SteamVR/ Pimax Direct mode and not extended?
anyone stil use kinect v2 ? i buy 1 from ebay kinect v2 with adaptor but with windows 10 latest update 1809 version 64 bit my kinect restart every 3 4 seconds and i have 0 frame!! i buy driver4vr to i just want headtracking for my pimax4k for dcs seated play or some racing sim!!! but no luck
