Does Revive work well with the Pimax 8K and 5K?

To the attention of @deletedpimaxrep1, @Matthew.Xu, @Pimax-Support and @bacon:

The silence to the repeated questions on this subject seems to indicate that the “Revive” tool is not compatible with the Pimax 8K and 5K, so the exclusive contents of the Oculus store could not be used.

Although Pimax claimed that one of his demos at CES would be from an Oculus game, we have not seen any. It was implied that it would be of a game normally only compatible with an Oculus hardware. Evidently, it was to demonstrate that the Pimax 8K and 5K were compatible with the exclusive Oculus games, and the only way to achieve this is through the Revive tool.

But it has not been that way.

The author of the Revive tool, Jules Bloke, also known as CrossVR, thinks that, at least, the developers would have to modify the programs so that they could adapt to the use of screens arranged at an angle, and although he thinks that Pimax makes some modifications in the image, it assumes that there might be some kind of distortion.

Despite the technical problems they suffered, it would have been enough to see Lucky’s Tale or Farlands, which do not waste resources, are free and do not give tracking problems or dizziness. Although people would have preferred a game more like “Lone Echo”.

This is quite serious for Pimax future sales; they would be the only one system not compatible with the Revive tool, so people who already have purchased exclusive games from the Oculus store could not play them with the Pimax.

Worse still, knowing that they are not compatible, Pimax would be tolerating that people continue to buy exclusive Oculus content. Pimax has not commented anything even during last Christmas offers.

We are talking about quite expensive games, with this price range:

49.99 €: The Climb, DiRT Rally (Oculus in Steam).
39.99 €: Lone Echo, Chronos, From Other Suns, Edge of Nowhere.
29.99 €: Wilson’s Heart, The Unspoken, Robo Recall, Medium, Quill, ARKTIKA.1.
24.99 €: DiRT Rally (oculus in oculus Store), Brass Tactics.
19.99 €: Dead and Buried.

Besides, we would lose a lot of free content like Farlands, Lucky’s Tale and many other experiences.

It’s a lot of money and I do not know if Pimax could have even legal issues about hiding that information.

Honestly, whatever is the compatibility or lack of compatibility with Revive, they should say it as soon as possible.

At the moment, I would advise not to buy anything from the Oculus store if it is only going to be used with the Pimax 8K or 5K.

don’t see a problem if these games will work for using vive revive, and then under pimax too. Only controllers should be vive

Although Revive works with the Pimax 4K, it may not work or have issues with the Pimax 5K and 8K, because use panels arranged at an angle. In that case, you could not use any Oculus content correctly, or you could not use it at all.

That’s what the creator of the Revive tool says.

in any case, it doesn’t matter now

For those who want to use the games bought or those who want to buy any of them it will.

Totally in agreement with you, @cdaked, it is normal to think that it is not compatible with revive since pimax has not shown anything in pimax 8k, for me it is important for 2 reasons, one to know if pimax is telling me the truth and second to know if the games that I bought in the store oculus I can play them.

Either they do not work or they work but not at an acceptable level right now.

On the plus side, we will definitely be able to play Fruit Ninja.

It seems that if the developers want, they can get versions that work correctly, but right now it’s as you say.

The good news is that it seems that Oculus encourages developers to take into account angled screens, and now, with the arrival of the Pimax 8K and 5K, maybe they will.

But the previous games will have to be recompiled.

If Pimax does not correct the distortion that been observed, developers won’t be inclined to add support for angled screens until it’s beneficial/widely in use.

Oculus games were set up with 5K at CES,
and… remember the gamer testimonials in 8K Kickstarter video? We shot those footages at GDC last year, and the game we use to demo 8K at GDC is the Oculus game Showdown.

Hi Xunshu, can you already give an indication when your team will release its statement on the remaining issues and on the expected delivery schedule ?

The team has reviewed the issues, not hard to resolve but do require more tuning, we will provide progress update no later than next week.

That Showdown Demo works without Revive:

Exactly, that demo does not mean that this is running with revive.

I do not understand why there is not a video of a game with revive of this CES that is what pimax had promised , it is a mystery.

Thanks for the swift response, and we all are looking forward to the update.

I hope the issues are easy to resolve, though the distortion, stereoscopic view and IPD issue(s) have been around for a long time now, so some of us wonder if this is going to be resolved that easily as after all. And the new lenses, at least on a photo from the V5 seemed to have a suddenly blurry outside section of the lenses, and one can also see the light being broken at that border between the two. The tracking hopefully is an easy one because it worked good enough on the V2/3. Please kindly also address all of this in the update.

Thanks, @deletedpimaxrep1; but I have not found the demo from GDC 2017; but, unless we can see someone playing it, the Shodown demo is like a video, and it does not prove anything; in addition, it seems that it can be used with SteamVR.`

There are also no images of anyone playing a game exclusive for Oculus at CES, everything that was seen can be used in Steam VR.

Taking into account that it’s important, you should show a “Lucky’s Tale”, at least; a “Lone Echo” or “RoboRecall” would clear any doubt.

Another thing is that the games does work, but with distortion added, because was not ready for panels arranged at an angle, since that does not seem to depend on SteamVR in the cases of games for Oculus.
