Does every HMD on the market have MURA?

I have used some HMDs including a CV1, a Quest, a Vive, three 5K+, and an 8K+.
However none of them had clear panels but clear MURA on bright scenes regardless of LCD or OLED displays. It was not something like mist caused by my sweat. I can clearly see it on the panels.

I hope my 8KX will not have MURA but since 8KX use same panels with 8K+ I am pretty worried about it.

Hmmm maybe some people are more sensitive to it? I still own a CV1, Quest, Vive & 5K+ and haven’t personally experienced Mura on any of them. I also wander if the term means the same to everyone - have heard it described by others as ‘looking through a dirty Window’ ie irregular pattern rather than screen door effect?

Mura is the result of poor color and brightness consistency from one pixel to the next.

I think one of the much marketed improvements of the Reverb G2 is that the mura has been greatly improved.

From my experience, the 8K+ has practically no SDE, so instead it becomes easier to notice the mura as the next imperfection.

I am thinking the 8KX will be the same.

If G2 has better mura, then that would be another advantage.

Yes that is the best description I think.

HP said that it wasn’t really Mura, I think that it was some kind of filter.

Usually I notice Mura on Oled screen e.g. on cv1 it’s significant but didn’t bother me on quest I almost don’t notice it however when games load and screen goes black grey I can see it but not in black games scenes. On vive pro it was awful when I plugged the hmd for first time but then hmd asked for firmware update and Mura wasn’t there anymore.

I didn’t see any mura on my 5k plus sn204. I also don’t see it on index and on rift s however I plugged it so long time ago so can’t be sure at least I never paid attention for mura in rift s.

But yes if hmd is not calibrated properly it breaks immersion as while you move you head around that static picture noise becomes very prominent

I think every flat panel has mura, to a lesser or greater extent. In practice, there will be at least a small amount of variance per pixel. Ideally, it will be very minor. Many times, it’s corrected by a unique (custom per-headset) calibrated correction step, to reduce the individual pixel differences.
