Recent reviews clearly show areas of improvement for the current MAS:
Eye-lens distance adjustment
Upwards/downwards tilt adjustment (like it was on Rift CV1)
Both are critical for ensuring an optimal experience for any possible head and face shapes.
On the most recent entires, I think I’d like to extend the wishlist a bit farther than anybody is likely to be willing to stretch, and request user focus adjustment.
This is more complicated, naturally. There are a number of more or less complicated potential mechanical solutions, but it would also mean the distortion correction would need to adjust to the variable optics (maybe even optimise the cameras accordingly, if particularly ambitious). :7
Focus dials (preferrably separate for the two lenses) is a complication, no doubt, but the first HMD maker to make it standard (and do it well), is bound to garner some gratitude from quite a few users who no longer need to bring their eyeglasses into the headset. :7
(Of course; The first to do high resolution lightfield displays will be able to do that in software, along with all other benefits, including getting rid of the big lenses.)
Yeah, HMDs makers also have to consider economics. Making a headset more expensive to satisfy a small percentage of the potential user group will result in lower sales numbers. This is the approach of Facebook who wants mass adoption for their HMDs in order to collect as much personal data as possible. Fortunately Pimax is targeting the enthusiast market with folks that are willing to spend more for the best possible HMD.
@hammerhead_gal Very well. Here’s the ticket, #9129. I want to say that I never wanted to talk to support again. I can’t stand them. Full of empty promises, intermittently ignoring me, and utter incompetence. I hope that won’t happen this time, but I’m not holding my breath.
@hammerhead_gal I have just received an email asking for 55% of the cost of what I paid for the headset to cover VAT and Fedex charges. It’s 33 days after delivery but they asked to pay within 14 days
Plus there’s no clear instructions and some PDF asking for details that I don’t have or understand. This is no use whatsoever and I cannot do anything with this request.
Pimax have to revisit this immediately, calculate the correct amount, and send me a proper professional email with clear instructions that make sense. Until that happens I cannot pay anything. I will reply back to the email saying the same. Can you please ask someone to investigate, as I’m not the only one? Thank you.
That was similar for me, luckily not as bad in percentage just came in a few days ago.
Still quite late and I have just the number to pay for and nothing that shows how it comes together - it seems correct but would look better if this had a defined process and corresponding “papers” to show what has to be paid to whom and why (FedEx, Vat) - also ideally known when ordering.
1_ 140° FOV only, 200 is useless (and zero SDE).
120 is the binocular vision if you don’t move your eyes. I have the artisan and frankly 140 is enough and no distorsion in the corners.
2_ clear lenses
3_ 120hz refresh at rate minimum
4_ max price 1000 euros tax included for the version without controllers.
5_ comfort kit -> the same, it works fine.
6_ strap, no MAS at 1000 euros.
7_ speakers inside the headset, like in the Oculus Quest 2, they sound so good and they take no place.
8_ WIFI 6 and be able to stream from the PC (not the internet box) to the headset so no cables.
9_ camera tracking/positionning in place of the gyro and base stations.
