Okay so , I dont want to keep parts of my vive that are not needed to connect my Pimax to the PC/SteamVR
I have decided to part it out, but what is needed for my Pimax8k headset (i also pledged for controllers)
So I sold my three 1.0 tracker pucks, no brainer I dont need those. I will sell my controllers and wait for the knuckles (either steam or wait for my Pimax versions) BUT.
Do I need the linkbox ?, or will the Pimax have its own ?
If I need it, then do I need the cable from my Vive headset to the linkbox ?
This is the big question indeed. There is no offical info on how the pimax will work together with existing Vive hardware.
I believe as well, that the linkbox is needed for wirelessly turning on the lighthouses. Maybe we can connect the HMD to the linkbox too - maybe not. I would not sell my linkbox either way or you might be looking into powering up your lighthouses via socket-connecting in the future.
Well I doubt it would work connecting the Pimax8K to the OG Vive’s linkbox since Pimax uses DP rather than HDMI, but it in all likelihood will work with the Vive Pro’s DP-based linkbox.
I’ll definitely be keeping my 1.0 basestations as well as linkbox and controllers to be able to use both Vive Pro and Pimax8K before they offer their respecitve setups beyond just the HMD.
An even then I’m not sure if I’ll be upgrading to 2.0 as the 1.0 basestations are already doing a fantastic job in my 5mx5m playspace.
I must admit this matter has me rather confused too.
I have my Vive lighthouses wall mounted, and all the cabling in trunking, plugging in and unplugging the power isn’t really an option at present, but I won’t be getting rid of my Vive kit until I have all of the Pimax gear (headset, lighthouses, controllers) then I’ll be giving it to my brother. My question is this though…
When the Pimax lighthouses are released, will they have the power management feature and if so how will it be controlled? Will the headset have a Bluetooth transmitter built in to it to perform the same functions as the Vive breakout box? Or will it come with their own version of the breakout box? If the power management feature exists within the SteamVR software it would seem utterly pointless not to use it.
