We are seeing in the firmware that there are two displays in the 5k and in the 8k, a default_panel_b8k and another panel_b8k_new, my 8k are of the last sent and have the default_panel_b8k, I understand then that the oldest displays are for backers and the most modern for new users.
I would like to know what the difference is between these two panels, although I think Pimax will not tell us.
my guess would be a reworked version of the 8k with a new name
new bridge chip with integrated scaler and new panels
making it a new product outside of the kickstarter
That’s what you have to check with someone who has purchased the Pimax 8k in the store, whether it is the same panel or that new panel is for a new revision of a future 8k.
Might also be am enhanced panel being examined for 8k-X or a RE version.
I remember the reason that the last of the backer 8K units were not being shipped was because Pimax had “different” panels being used. I wonder if this might have anything to do with that??
We have verified that the first units take the default panel and for example my unit that has been of the last of the backers also take default panel.
With the Pimax tool to change the Flick parameter and using the Show command shows us which panel uses our hmd.
