By all means, I don’t want to be one of those people who go on about failures. I don’t think the 8K is a failure, but I do think the biggest caveat that needs to be understood is that when these two units are dialed in to look similar, there is a massive performance cost on the part of the 8K. The 8K seems to certainly have a much higher maximum potential, but the hardware to deliver that is clearly nowhere in sight- especially given these RTX reviews coming in.

Hmm yeah SweViver figured something wrong but to be fair it was only a very slight drop, like 100 pixels. Not sure it explains it. He did say there was an update today that improves it through… Need to know more about that. Gosh I’m so confused !!!

That’s a good point. I am assuming that (1) people do their research to decide which unit is best for their situation and (2) not to fret too much over that decision, since the headsets are very similar.
Also, there’s a reasonable chance that the 8K’s display can be improved, by pre-sharpening the image before sending it to the headset. That’s a much lower cost operation than rendering using a larger super-sampling size.
I should note that I’ve been planning to upgrade my GPU specifically for the 8K for over a year. I intend to get a 2080 Ti, although I had only planned to spend ~$900 (a year ago). Unfortunately, the price has grown way beyond my expectations.
I think that a 2080 Ti should be sufficient for most VR games. If needed, you can always reduce the graphics quality settings.

Have you tried watching movies on 8K or 5K+ ? If you did can you please make a comparison ? I have the Oculus GO and the videos still look pixelated. I am very sensitive to SDE and I would appreciate a less pronounced grid.
Porn was definitely less pixelated on the 8K.
They haven’t made any VR porn yet so I don’t know what you’re talking about. There’s none in the internet either. Well I don’t know but I’ve never looked.

That looks like image compression to me, the 5k image is really compressed
Me neither but I think theres a lot of adult VR games already. Call me naive and childish, but I think I’m gonna use the headset just for gaming…
Edit. I mean the normal games, killing and rampaging and such.
Of course…there is no VR pornography … other thing maybe not, but pornography there is a lot. I myself have reached more than 500GB in pornography vr.
I clarify the pornography is the main use of VR according to studies.
The only thing you need is to search well on the internet. 
I think sk1 was being sarcastic myself… I don’t know about searching well… a simple google of “VR porn” seems to be very effective.

not sure how this topic got to porn again, but yes, there is a segnificant difference between 2d and vr-porn.
on a highres hmd like the 4k or 8k at least(5k+ gets pretty close to the 4k, so lets include it).
while with lowres hmds like the rift you are quite litteraly standing in front of a screendoor with the action beeing on the other side of it, 4k and up hmds have you right up in there.
i found that beeing reliant on others in the erotic department just makes people jump from partner to partner, never beeing satisfied.(seems to happen to girls more often) once they learn to take care of their basic needs, they are calmer, more centered and have good chance of finding a real match.
thats why erotic content is so important, it has indirect, but segnificant impact on peoples lifedecitions.
