I have worked with testing of prototype models of VR headset for a large manufacturer previously. It is unclear if the cables for your unit are detachable, this has been amongst my largest concern for many of the production prototypes and regular feedback.
For the sake of ease of maintenance and replacement of damaged parts please make an effort to allow for end-users to replace the cables running from the GPU to the headset. Wires tend to be more prone to damage (I believe one of your cables on a demo unit met this fate). Cables will break, please factor this into the production models and allow for replacements to be ordered directly from yourselves or use standardised components which can be purchased through other retailers.
It makes so little design sense to have a headset worth hundreds of dollars be rendered useless when a cable worth several dollars breaks.
I highly approve of your comment here, after having the Vive and Rift for a over a year, I can say from personal experience, even if you are the most careful person in the world and as I always do, play either in socks or bare feet, you will still step on the cords at some point because it really can’t be entirely avoided. I have luckily not had to replace a cord yet, but it is very likely to occur especially with those less careful. If the cord will need to be replaced the Vives model design is good for simple do it yourself replacement and as easy as removing a simple snap on cover on the HMD.
Hopefully detachable from the headset. I know they are somewhat detachable because of the wireless module. Looking at the modular design video on the kickstarter page they look detachable. Watch it at 20 seconds. He spins it around and no wires attached.
