Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone is having a similar experience if I clarify what exactly I mean.
Note This ONLY happens in HL:Alyx
I have black levels set to balanced
I noticed that when I go into dark areas my left eye has an area down the bottom right of the panel thats slightly darker. I can close my right eye and focus on something in the with my left scene and move my head left and right and whatever im focused on goes slightly darker in this little area, then nomal out of it. If I do the same thing with my right eye the image darkness is the same all over the panel. This causes a miss-match in darkness between eyes which is quite off-putting and makes it seem like the I’m out of focus or the IPD is off a bit. The image is perfect out of the dark so its nothing to do with lenses or the panels, and darks in games such as ED are not affected, this is purely a thing with HL:Alyx
I got used to it but I’d love to hear of anyone else has the same and if you’ve been able to fix it somehow?!
I’ve just installed the latest PiTool (263) although I havent had a chance to jump in game yet.
If you havent noticed it, you don’t have it to be honest.
The miss match between eyes, while not being bad, is very noticeable and only appears in very dark areas.
I’ll still double check. I haven’t played HL:A for over a couple of weeks. It’s possible it might have something to do with a SteamVR update or something.
Parallel Projection does not have to be on, but you need to provide some command line arguments (a.k.a. “launch options” in Steam) to avoid artifacts in HL:A. I’m not running it with PP enabled and I haven’t noticed a problem (other than occasional object clipping artifacts at the far edges of my FOV).
he is on XR, which has black levels software/firmware processing, it can be the cause, I have XR too but atm I have no time to hook it up & check the HL:A. I played it on XR though about a month ago & I had no the problem.
Here is what I mean - left eye, bottom area of the view. This area makes things darker than the same area on the right eye causing a slight blackness miss-match.
I have a different weird thing for you - in SteamVR (dark environment with concentric circles) I notice that the left display of my 8KX seems to be at lower brightness because the light grey lines/circles are dimmer than on the right side. In other areas or apps however I don’t notice a difference between the two displays, which is why I didn’t bother to mention it because it would seem a small issue at the end. But it is weird.
Nothing to do with that - its an AREA in the bottom of the left panel as per the drawing I posted.
Both panels are exactly the same in the brightness/contrast in all games including HL:Alyx except for these very unique places and only in this game.
ONLY happens in game when I go into very dark places in the left eye where the bottom right corner has a darker layer over objects in the world behind it, whereas the right eye has a uniform darkness for the full panel.
It doesnt even happen in the loading screen (which is very dark) when we get the bald fella with the valve in the back of his head.
Slightlly dark, normal light and bright levels all perfectly identical.
