My main question is that I do understand that a big jump in Gfx Card is needed for the Pimax 5k+ and VR in general, but what about CPU?
— Does the 5k+ and VR in general require a big jump in CPU power or is the taxing of CPU not jump up much at all when going from flat to VR for the CPU? —
Been offered an i7 8700, wondering if its enough when matched with a 1080ti which will be upgraded up n up in the future.
EDIT:- The main games I’ll be playing are Elite Dangerous and heavily gfx modded Skyrim.
General rule is that 8700 (6 cores I think) for single core processing is about 10% faster (4.7GHz vs 4.3GHz) than Ryzen 7 2700x (8 cores), but the difference is becoming less in multi core scenarios where Ryzen 7 outperformes 8700. For gaming 8700 is a bit faster, but I’m not sure the difference is that much noticeable. It also depends on the MB performance, how fast you can run the memory, number of M2 HDDs etc. For me AMD platform (X470 or X370) is more flexible for general OC comparing to INTEL.
Personally I don’t really want to jump off my trusted X79/LGA2011 platform, but it’s becoming obsolete for VR considering number of PCI-E available on it and Pimax requirements. Still not convinced that it’ll be much difference, but started to move to AMD X470/2700x/3200 OC memory + RTX 2080. anything else like THREADRIPPER platform or quad channel i9 systems are out of my reach at the moment
Space Pirate Trainer, generally messing around in the SteamHome.
Sairento was more like 65-70 for most levels.
Right now I’m pretty much just running the stock settings, 1x PiPlay, 1x SteamSS.
Just got mine last weekend so I’m hoping I might have some more time to actually optimize and tweak this weekend (as well as play ) .
I’m building solely for VR… MAJOR VR Addict since I got a PSVR and itching for FOV as the current FOV in headsets (used Vive too) just annoys me the whole time I’m playing any/all VR games.
So the 9700k would be the better option it sounds? 5 quid more so no biggie.
Could be one of those A/B comparison times and as you say, depends on game… Mainly Skyrim and Elite for me but I’m one of these people that says a good game is a good game regardless of type/theme/style etc but cockpit games are pretty damned fun if done well so thats a CPU intensive game type same with large open world games I’ve read.
Thumper and Polybius will be wicked with a proper FOV real Psychedelic zone your head out stuff when it covers the peripherals too
I just sold my prior setup to family member… 6600k…memory…mobo…and my 1080ti… to offset cost of 2080ti that’s coming in few days…need some more power!! Lol
I did a search for it a few months ago (yet again) and didn’t find it. I just bought it off Steam. I’ve been wanting to play it ever since Nine Inch Nails used it in their Less Than music video. If you’ve never seen the video, you should watch it… The girl is hot, even though she’s just staring at the screen all glassy-eyed…
