Looks like maybe the capsense finger tracking is only going to be on the pinky and ring finger? Which is an odd choice to onyl have it on those, hopefully they include it on all thr fingers including the thiumb.
Also, it’s unclear if there’s going to be a strap to go around your hand like the knuckles controller so that you can ‘let go’ of it like this in the gif below, though it would be off to have the tracking area around the hand if that isn’t going to be included.
Plus, they haven’t included a system button into the design, it only has 2 buttons, wherew as the knuckles controller has 3:
Initially I thought they were going with a valve like design…This looks more like the occulus touch layout but from the looks of it it wraps around the hand…
I agree that it seems missing a system button, which needs to be included
I agree that they need to consider capsense for middle finger. But they also need to consider if there is any strain of the hand for prolonged use, Which I’m not sure if this would help with or not
some people here will also have a complain that there is no joystick
I’m going to be nervous about this until it is proven working well with a prototype and reviews come in with the feel , resposeiveness and tracking (as well as game software support)
So we have to hold onto it, and it’s not tied to our hand with straps like Valve knuckles? If so, won’t ‘remembering’ to have to hold onto it, reduce immersion? I really hope we can get one that has straps as this also helps for people with disabilties who have weaker fingers/muscles.
Cynically you could say why don’t Pimax just supply the Valve Knuckles, or is the idea to have their own in-house version and sell them at a cheaper cost? It seems unlikely, Pimax can produce a product as good as Valves with all their money and time investing in the ‘knuckles’ product.
Regarding the controllers :
You need to get as close as possible to knuckles for perfect compatibility with games VR // here are the essential elements :
followed for all the fingers.
use trackpad for compatibility with VR games and especially to use the trackpad as several buttons virtual ; because all developers will develloper for/with knuckles ; Regarding the thumbstick, it’s not possible to use them as virtual buttons, so incompatibility with VR games that will develloper for knuckles.
Otherwise, you can add thumbstick next to the trackpad like the windows mixed reality controllers.
hand strap to open hands like knuckles.
the same number of physical buttons as knuckles or more, but ESPECIALLY not less.
Looking good. One sugestion about better ergonomic and placement of the system button.
You should place it little bit below and on side of the inner face button. It is more natural and ergonomic to move your thumb to press it.
Button should be in natural radius of thumb movemant. Maybe even something simmilar like is on some flight sticks.
I used to think the same…but then I had the thought that I would rather Pimax do an Oculus touch clone (with different strap location)…for the lighthouse…as it would separate itself (and a lot of people like the touch)…But if they are going down this path they should at least aim for the same functionality or better…
I think if they took this path this would give them a competitive edge in that they would be bringing a version of the touch to lighthouse…and that they don’t have direct comparisons with the valve knuckles when they are available…(from a quality standpoint…which the valve will probably win)
That way they would be providing something unavailable…and if I really wanted the valve knuckles…i could go and buy them separately.
