Confirm Vive lighthouse and controller compatibility

Hi. If I purchase a set of v1 lighthouses, controllers and trackers, will they work wirelessly with my headset when it arrives ?

Just wanted confirmation before I buy them.

There are threads on this. Please use search in future.

Headset will work with either v1 or v2 lighthouses. Just not both at the same time. & v2 lighthouses will not work with v1 laser tracking.

Thanks. I had heard about the lighthouse stuff but I am more wanting confirmation about controllers. I’ve seen them used usb (in the Linus video) and used pimax prototype wirelessly, but didn’t know about the Vive ones wirelessly.

The USB connection has nothing to do with tracking but sending positional data to the computer. This will be done by with bluetooth just like the Vive, has been confirmed by pimax before.

But my understanding is that the connection goes through the headset not direct to the pc. Which is why you can’t just use lighthouse and controllers with any headset and steamvr. This is why I was checking that the 8k can interoperate with htc v1 equipment until the v2 pimax stuff arrives later.

@sweviver said there is a dongle you can use like the steamcontroller one. Putting a dongle built in the headset simply gets around distance issues & ensure great signal strength due to proximity.

Yes the Bluetooth is in the headset, the headset is steamvr compatible. You can use any existing steamvr compatible device with any future steamvr device

Sweet! Thanks. I’ll likely pick up a set of v1 htc stuff over the holidays in preparation, and plan on using those with my headset until the pimax accessories arrive later in 2018

This is what I’m doing with my headset except that I’m probably picking up valves controllers instead. Then I might upgrade basestations.

Yes, vive wands work with 8K and they don’t need vive/steam dongle.

We integrate dongle on the motherboard.
