Can we play ocolus games out of the oculus store?
ATM there is a nice deal for I except you to die.
Its really cheap but I dont know If I could play this game with my 8k
Revive usually works to allow SteamVR headsets like Vive & PiMax to run Oculus store titles.
Out of oculus store or out of steam VR?
From both, Oculus Store and Steam.
Revive is a workaround/Compatability layer to let you play Oculus Store Titles in steam with steamvr compatiable headsets.
Lucky Palmer has been backing Revive with a $2000/month donation to help this project. Which is awesome as i don’t believe in exclusives.
Palmer Luckey left Facebook in March 2017 , now I’m curious is that becouse of supporting revive or he starts support after ?
His leaving FB had in large part to some media spectacle from my understanding with US bad politics.
From my understanding he started financial supporr sometime after resigning from FB.
This isn’t such a simple answer.
True Revive would work because it is compatible with SteamVR, BUT Jules, the developer of Revive, mentioned to me that he thinks most games will not work with the Pimax.
This is because the Oculus SDK did not have support for angled screens until recently and all games have to code especially for angled screens if they want it to work with angled screens. Most Rift games would need to be updated to the latest version of the SDK and would need to recode part of their games in order for a hack (ReVive) to work with angled screens.
Doesn’t seem so likely to me.
This does not apply to SteamVR games because SteamVR SDK always had support for angled screens and the SteamVR compatibility layer automatically allows games to work on all headsets including ones with angled screens.
I asked Jules if he thinks the game will run but look distorted, run but only with a smaller FOV, or not run at all and he said he really isn’t sure and he would need to test it.
This would be a better question for the team.

With Jules being one of the Revive authors? Wpuld know better how the Abstraction layer works between steam & oculus. Moving forward with titles might be fine with the OpenXR standard being adopted.
I know in recent Killing Floor VR that Tripwire said Oculus users & steam version users will not be able to play together.
Might need to wait for tge PiMax team to evaluate the potenial oculus issue. As you mentioned Jules saying that it would need testing & atm the team is likely focused on getting Piplay primed for steam & such.
Great Catch though!
Jules is the developer of Revive the only one as far as I’m aware. https://www.patreon.com/crossvr
Jules is the only developer of Revive.
He is also known as CrossVR.
Yes hopefully OH games being developed for the future hopefully will take advantage of the angled screen feature in the SDK to ensure the apps will work on future headsets.
But popular games like Lone Echo, Robo Recall and many more Oculus Exclusives may not work without the developers intervening and changing some code.
Truth this may also affect Vive Wave(Vive port) as well. With HTC spteading their wings away from. Valve with their own platform. Now if they stick to Valve’s OpenVR base mainly won’t be an issue. However HTC could decide they don’t want to support non htc headsets & not add the expanded FOV.
But on the otherhand it would be foolish for Oculus & HTC to go this route as VR Devs might want these added features like increased FOV & choose the platform that best suites there developement path.
Should be interesting to see what comes in the next few months.
Is the only one creator and developer, yes.
Pimax has not tested if Revive works? I think they even said it was compatible, right?
In the FAQs: “Pimax 8K VR is compatible with most of the VR content on the market, including PiHome, Steam VR, Oculus(via a third party tool)”.
@deletedpimaxrep1 @Matthew.Xu @PimaxVR, it would be nice to see a Lone Echo with the Pimax 8K.
Well we know ReVive works with the 4k. But as @MildlyConfused pointed out the oculus sdk from his conversation with Jules could be a problem, especially since Oculus only supports their own headsets.
I can see ReVive will work on one side of things; but may have black Side bars &/or possibly distortion. Definitely need some testing if not already done.
Pimax should send a prototype to the developer of the Revive, Jules Blok AKA CrossVR, as soon as possible, if they have not already done so.
Do not you think so, @Matthew.Xu?
Pimax has not explicitly said that they have tested the 8K with Revive.
But just thinking in terms of how Revive work, most people (including Pimax) would assume that any VR Headset that can use SteamVR SHOULD be able to use Revive.
Pimax probably never even thought about missing angled screens option in the Oculus SDK at the time.
It would be very nice for them to test OH games and see if they can find a solution.
In my conversation with Jules Blok, I told him I was planning on starting a petition for Pimax to send him a unit, because I’m sure all users would like to have access to experiences from Oculus Home, but Jules said that getting a headset would not really help anything because of the problem with the SDK and all the older games. He said there’s nothing he can do, he doesn’t think there’s anything Pimax can do.
He believes its all up to the developers of applications on OH.
So we should start emailing developers then. If they’re getting bombarded with emails from potential customers that want to buy their product in sure they’ll be more inclined to add the necessary code. If of course they weren’t already planning to add it.
Not a bad idea to start emailing Devs. But I’m not sure how easy it is to implement into the application. Especially without having a headset to test it on.
We should email Devs of the big games. Such as Robo Recall, Lone Echo, Arktika.1…
This is concerning.
Really hope Pimax did not make another assumption without verification beforehand…
Let’s see what games/content will be on display for their CES event.
If all SteamVR and no Oculus Exclusives, some explanations will be in order.
Well I don’t think they can LEGALLY show Oculus Exclusives in a demo. Because they cannot guarantee they will work.
They will probably just show SteamVR games and that’s normal.
@Matthew.Xu
Can you please test some Oculus Home games with Revive on the Pimax to test them. I think this is something every backer would really like to know.
