Is it possible to “fix” a configuration, so the next day I do not have to repeat the process?
Whenever I turn off the PIMAX, the next day the gyroscope switches on automatically.
Yes!!! I absolutely want the option of turning off the Gyro permanently, until I want it on again. I use Pimax for movies only because of the lack of roomscale and decent controllers. I’m nearly so frustrated at this point I’m ready to sell both of the ones i own. (4k and BE)
Same thing here. I intend to buy VR controls and a gamepad, but for now I’m playing “non VR” games and watching 3D movies and 360º videos.
I do not see how you can even play 2d or watch movies with the kind of drift it produces. I have to reset the view so often It is not even worth the effort to try. Hopefully this new beta update that came today will help. keeping fingers crossed.
Edit: I installed the new beta and it seems to be much more stable. I watched about 30 Min. of a video in virtual desktop and it did not drift to any detectable degree in that time. I tried it in whirlygig and experienced similar results. I tried to turn off the gyro in the settings and still had to try multiple times and cancel like has been described by someone else. It finally did work with some kind of warning about extend mode. It appears that this version of pimax is closer to achieving the results I wanted to see. If they could just fix the turning off the gyro part i think it would be acceptable. Still definitely not a plug and play device, but getting there.
Since I moved the computer’s position to magnetic north and installed PiPlay 1.2.91, the drift basically disappeared.
I left the HDM standing on the table, came back 40 minutes later and the PImax was in the same position.
Using PiPlay 1.2.93, after the new magnetic calibration, the thing seems to have got even better.
Apart from the fact that with the gyro turned off, the drift is non-existent for watching movies and play “non VR games”, the screen stays fixed in front of you, perfect.
PS: I use Virtual Desktop.
What is the 4k and BE?
Hi, we’re testing this issue of gyroscope can not be turned off normally and will update the progress soon.
Furthermore, I added this “configuration” issue to our bug system also, please be advised.
The original Pimax models with serial numbers beginning with 100XXXXX have an led screen which is truely 4k, 2k per eye. Pimax began shipping another model recently with serial numbers beginning with 102XXXXX. These have a 1440 AMOLED screen which is still good but not true 4k. The 4k version came in a box with orange lettering on the box, the BE version is in a box with blue lettering. this was just about the only way to tell them apart besides looking at the serial number.
Pimax claims that the BE (Business Edition) was sent to distributors by mistake and that consumers were not supposed to receive them. Some of us did anyway so there was some issues there which Pimax corrected.
