That’s awesome! But how do you do the software part, you develop drivers yourself?
@Sjef there is a lot of driver and plugins available online from the countless DIY VR solutions out there and a lot of them work really well with OpenVR I will also be using my lighthouses and wands so that simplifies things.
@Heliosurge does that setup avoid the typical condensation issue that occurs when using a tec directly on the heat source?
I have always thought it was a bit more of a mess with tecs since you still end up having to liquid or air cool them to achieve a high enough temp delta.
As i said haven’t tried it. But i was more thinking using it as supplementary cooling.
Mounting a water block after your radiator. The idea would be to mount the water block to a tec with say a cpu heatsink mounted outside the case (much like how portable 12v coolers have a cooling heatsink inside) the tec this way could be mounted away from componets.
There was a cpu cooler years ago that used a tec with an air cooling. I think it had 2 heatsinks with a fan in the middle?
The rumor mill is in full force. After I thought NVidia had settled on the GTX 1180 name, it looks like they may be calling the next GPU the RTX 2080. The R is for Raytracing. The new GPU is apparently going to be available very soon; the video shows the release as “August”.
“AdoredTV also claims its source has said that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 will be 8% faster than the GTX 1080 Ti and 50% faster than the GTX 1080. A new Titan GPU is also purportedly in the works to be 15% faster than the Titan V and 50% faster than the GTX 1080 Ti.”
This matches the previous speed estimates that I have seen for the 1180, which is only slightly faster than a 1080Ti, but with reduced power usage. That lends weight to my decision to wait for the Ti variant, since I want something noticeably faster than a 1080Ti.
And here’s a video on the rumor…
ONLY 8% faster then a gtx1080ti?,thats not enough for the pimax 8K…
Thats not good news…
8%!!! Wtf? It is a bad news…
Question is, what will be the price of the Titan, will it be in the 1,400 € or 3,000 € range ?
That 8% figure is essentially unchanged from the 1180 rumors from months ago. That’s why I’ve been saying I’m waiting for the third-party overclocked Ti variants to come out. That’s what I think it will take to get high-quality game settings running well on an 8K.
I haven’t seen any pricing rumors yet. The Titan is bound to be expensive. It’s probably best to wait for a 2080 Ti.
The letter “R” rolls nicely off the tounge, says $guy_with_thick_scottish_accent. :9
/waiting for the first to express their opinion by inserting an “s”.
That video that @neal_white_iii posted put the new Titan RTX at $3,000
That’s a pity. I would have seriously considered the greedy 50% price increase on the Titan, but not something as obscene as $3,000. Thta is just so far away from anything I could justify that it just stops right there. Probably a good thing because it prevents me from paying such 50% premium. On the other side, it all seems to lead to a purchase first of the 2080 and then of the 2080Ti. Which in itself will burn some money. But you only live in VR once, right…
There will only be a few additional months, before the 2080Ti ships. Why buy a 2080? Can’t you wait a bit?
That’s what I plan to do. Besides, with the delays for the 8K, you’ll probably be able to get both around the same time.
There will be a flood of 1080Ti’s appearing on EBay no doubt too.
If all this is true then i’ll stick with my 1080ti ftw3 and wait for next Titan but, let’s not forget about that “Vr Ready” port .
This might make all the difference .
Because if the 8K is delivered to me around the time of the release of the 2080, it is the difference between enjoying the 8K (2080) or not (980Ti), and in latter case I would be waiting something between 6-10 months until I get the 2080Ti OC card. After all the wait for the 8K, in case the 8K really delivers on its promise, I just don‘t believe that I can convince myself to wait for up to 10 further months to finally have fun with the 8K. I was hoping that the 980Ti would allow me to still enjoy it, but from what you read, this MRTV had a 1070 and it sucked, etc., I have doubts. On the other hand you have the update where they claim to have improved the performance by 30-40 %, so there is a small chance that the 980Ti may work well enough after all. By the time I get my 8K, there will be a range of reports not only from beta testers but from early number backers so I will definitely reserve the decision till that time.
My point is, I want the 8K to be enjoyable within at max. 1-2 months after having received it, not wait 10 months. If I can do without the inbetween purchase, fine; but if not - a 2080 it has to be.
Of all the upgrades I’ve had, Going from the 980ti to 1080ti was a huge difference. It’s a solid card. I recomend you get one in the meantime
Nope, will rather wait for the 2080 now. Only if the 1080Ti should be much cheaper would I go for it as my interim solution - provided the output ports do not play a role in the decision, which could alo favour the 2080.
You guys keep talking about the 2080 only being 8% better than the 1080ti, but what about the 2080ti?!
It‘s another 10 months away. That is beyond my current horizon…
