Best components for a new Pc to use 8kx? Help needed

Hello there.

Since Pimax 8kx is not working on my laptop i decided to buy a new pc.
I got this price quotation from a guy that will assemble and configure the PC for me.

I would like to know if you have any better option/suggestion about any specific components, considering that i will use this PC only with the Pimax 8kx to play some games and to watch immersive 3d movies (better if in 8k and 360).

This is the actual list with the components:
https://www.pccomponentes.com/lista-de-deseos/eadp2KTm7EJl3r

My main concern is about the processor.
Would it be better for my requirements to buy the Ryzen 7 3700x instead of the Ryzen 5 3600?

The 2080super is fine or i should also consider the 2080ti?

Any other suggestions to improve this PC configuration?

Thanx

Do you need your PC ‘Right now’?

I’m not sure if you are in the 400 backer situation or the preorder/upgrades.

If you are the latter and your laptop is still working perfectly you might be able to wait for Nvidia to announce a new GPU. No harm.

I am backer 3x and i already have the pimax 8kx since about 10 days.

i do not know if to wait is a good option.
if these new Nvidia cards are really better in performance and really close to be announced then well… i could consider it as an option.

Tbh I suggest getting a cheaper card DEPENDING on the SPECIFIC games you play. If you can get DFR for Eyetracking working for those games you won’t need as much GPU power and you won’t feel as bad when a new card is announced. Hopefully AMD also supports DFR and opens up the options even further.

Also depends on your budget.

I also think we are rather late in the Ryzen Cycle since the new consoles are using the newer architecture for their CPUs. I’m personally going to wait but I can afford to do so because I can. For CPUs I find the performance gains from the top end to the 2nd place to be marginal for the larger price difference I only get the top end mainly because I replace it once every 6 or so years.

For 8KX I was thinking about 2080Ti OC, but now decided to wait for 3080Ti, just to be sure it runs absolutely all games 100% stable FPS within couple of years.

We are honestly too late in a generation cycle to ever be recommending someone a 2080Ti for upgrades.

Especially with the new consoles that are going to make graphical requirements much higher.

If buying a GPU used, you desire Eyetracking that supports Nvidia VRS and funds are limited, I would consider a used, blower card like an ASUS Turbo or low end MSI RTX 2080 (Super is barely faster and costs more) as RTX 2080Ti prices won’t fall until 3000 series is launched.

Used prices might even rise for RTX 2080Ti but only if Ampere is a disappointment. For example, used GTX 1080 Ti prices shot up once the RTX 2080 was launched as people noticed not much performance difference and the GTX 1080 Ti had 11GB memory not 8GB like it’s replacement.

If you have the funds it might be best to try and grab a used quality well cooled 2080Ti, literally as the new cards are about to launch and some might lower their asking price. Then grab one and spend $200 on Eyetracking but only if the 3080TI is priced absurdly at $1200-$1500.

Now you know my master plan

I would go for the Ryzen 7 CPU, it’s only another €100.

The 2 additional cores might help you later, if you want to run vive trackers, go wireless, or do any streaming. The eye tracker might need some CPU as well.

For a detailed recommendation you would have to tell us what games you like to play.

@lampodiluce Im using old i7 6700k with 1080ti, in half life alyx my cpu load never exceed 50% in native 4k with big fov, considering it was running stable 75 frames with no smartsmoothing. I wouldnt worry a lot about cpu, gpu is the primary issue here. Not sure about amd processors performance, you should just visit some benchmark sites and see how these 3 compare to each other.

I would go with a used, cheap rtx 2070/80 and later this year swap it against a 3080/ti/90. Depends on budget.

CPu should be fine for the next years. You could upgrade to a 4xxx series Ryzen any time when out also end of the year.

And i would go with a B550 Motherboard. 450 should be only bought if very cheap. old tech.

Lots of good suggestions here.

@mr.uu is definitely right if getting a Ryzen 3000 cpu your better to grab a B550 mobo as it has the pciX v4.0 support.

With Current games the Ryzen 5 3600x should be fine. However the Ryzen 7 3700x may have benefits later on if the extra doesn’t seem too much. However you could put the extra towards gpu.

The x versions are the better cpu generally. Movie watching no real concerns there.

As others have mentioned looking at the games your intending on playing is good.

Dont get a B450 board, AMD has already stated only the X570 boards will support future generation CPU’s. 3600 is fine, 3700X is a bit overkill.

Right now 95% of all memory sets existence are invalidated by the “Patriot Memory Viper Steel Series DDR4 16GB (2 x 8GB) 4400MHz” which you can find for pretty cheap. Clock it at 3733Mhz CL14 on Ryzen3 for good times.

If you are paying this guy to assemble your PC, get your moneys worth and get him to install water cooling on the GPU. Unless you are gtetting under 60C tempeature on the GPU it will be thermal throttling and you will not be seeing the perfomance gains of boost clocks.

Might as well get a used 2080 super founders edition, they can be found pretty cheap right now with people offloading in preparation for the 30 series. The saving would more than pay for the cost of a water cooler. You might even find a used EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER XC HYBRID, I would ask your system integrator to swap the 120mm radiator for a 240mm one though.

As to prove that after market GPU cooling is worth it:

This is my 2080 getting the clock frequency up to 2070MHz consistently on a card rated for 1800MHz.

Would defenly recomend more memory at least 32GB and as other wrote maybe wait 2-3month so AMD.s new CPU line come out and Nvidia.s and AMD.s new GPU line. At least what I am doing.

If EVGA is still running their Step-Up Program, you can buy 20xx series EVGA card, and then within 90 days of purchase if 30xx is out, upgrade your 20xx to 30xx for a difference in price.

I know tomorrow never comes but this is a poor time to buy expensive pc components the prices are inflated due to Covid and Amd and nvidia are very close to releasing next gen products. September has been thrown around a lot on the tec channels.

Amd does have there TRX40? Line but pricey ifbyou want the power.

rumor has it that nvidia has asked partners to raise the price of the current rtx stock to “starve off a new potential cryptocurrency bubble” but everybody seems to expect it to make new higher prices of the 3000 series seem like less of a jump.

tbh man, if you can wait, new GPUs are launching in 2 months.

It’s just base clock tho, all recent nvidia cards boost over the base clocks, watercooling variant sustain the performance longer and slightly higher boost due to lower temp but that’s usually like 1% or 2% performance , quite negligible.

I reckon wait and see for 3000 series. Rumor has it that it’s a much bigger performance gain, and if it is, 2000 series card will see a big price fall.

So perhaps the best option is to wait and pour into a 3000nseries or pickup a discounted 2000 series
