Explain to me, is this the real SDE Pimax 8K or fiction, just a visual illustration??
Slightly better than Vive just and bigger than 4K. Maybe this is the 5K version?
And what is the structure of the pixels: RG BG RG BG RG BG, or RGB RGB RGB RGB RGB RGB ?
yeah if this is legit, it’s pretty disappointing. fov is nice and all but the sde doesnt look like much of an improvement over the rift
This is what people who tried the 8k are saying? “Not much of an improvement over the rift”?
From what I’ve heard it’s a great improvement ! Just cause he showing you a SDE Pattern doesn’t mean you will see it, I’m sure he had magnify it more just to display it.
That is, it simply shows a pixel pattern, it turns out. And the proportions are unlikely to be kept between the different SDE. I also heard only good things about SDE, but in this video I was a little surprised by this picture … Well, let’s hope that SDE is not worse than the 4K version
Could anyone from @PimaxVR @Matthew.Xu @bacon @Heliosurge confirm which subpixel arrangement uses 8K display?
This is NOT showing SDE. The picture has been cropped in so the pixels all appear the same size as to show the pixel arrangement.
The creator even said this himself:
If you want to see comparable SDE, you’ll have to wait for a non-crapped in image that shows the pixels at the correct relative size to each other.
I can’t say for sure but i presume probably rgb similar to the 4k as my experience with the v2. The v2 in screen quality compared to the 4k; miles ahead.
While I have not seen a 4k Pentile display with having a huge reduction in sub pixels. I doubt that if it was Pentile that it would look better than the 4k model even with higher refresh & better brightness/contrast.
Tbh I liked my buddy’s psvr for picture vs the vive due to vive’s sde. Psvr being lower res (tho really not by much)
Indeed looking at the pictures carefully the Vive looks more like brickwork with the black around the pixels being like mortar between the picel bricks. Where as tge other 2 has a more blended look (yes i can see the pattern ie the 4k wav or zig zag)
That looks like a pentile sub pixel arrangement to me, not RGB stripe. It looks like it has way more green, the hallmark of pentile.
If its not RGB stripe, its basically a lot less resolution.
I was on bigscreen again this morning talking with folks about the 8k, and gauging interest.
A lot of people expressed concerns over the product’s longevity, and viewed that as a deciding factor for them in not backing the HMD
A couple guys were concerned that the Vive 2 or CV2 would have well rounded multiple areas of improvement beyond the FOV, such as higher PPD, new tracking, better resolution, haptics, etc. And they were afraid that support for.this HMD would not be quality long term.
They expressed concern that while the 8k has great FOV, its resolution will feel low when next gen HMDs come out. Since its a huge purchase, i 7nderstand that nervousness.
If indeed 8k feels comperable to the windows MR HMDs, they will need.a way to keep Pimax relevant across multiple areas.
I can understand as it reminds me of the old console battles Sega vs Nintendo being the old favourites. One would wait to see what the other would release so they could “one up them”.
In today Ps4 vs Xb1. Ps4 was the sttonger better than the 2 (spec wise). Now that the Ps4 pro released; MS is posed to release a truly killer 1up.
Aa for Vive? Hard to say… But more or less LG is the next Valve sponsored headset. & if new tracking comes it’ll likely be Valve.
Truth if Lucky hadn’t sold to FB; rumour has it Valve had planned on sharing their laser tracking with them.
I used to be a fan of HTC phones til they got cheap on the zoe camera & such. Atm partial to LG and have been fortunate that my LG G4 has thus far not been a lemon with the heating issues. Mine so far stays cool save when had used gps function baking in the sun while driving. My g2 is still strong & well.
But truth imho neither Vive or Oculus headsets have been out long enough to determine lingevity (yet).
I think the V2 of rift and Vive will shoot for 140 degrees FOV with 1440p or 4k per eye. Since that is where enterprise HMDs are at today, it.makes sense that those specs will trickle down.
Good possibility. Though i think FB main focus is good cheap headsets to try & boost vr to 1 billion users.
Be interesting to see where htc goes as atm there testing Vive with settop box in china (very expensive imo @ around $80US/month) plus cost if settop box & headset. And i heard htc was considering selling their vr side.
