Looks great!
- Acceptable contrast (from what can be seen)
- Screendoor noticeable if you look for it, but not disturbing at all
- Lens flare effects visible, but very subtle
[Pimax 8K through the lens] ARK:Park + Pimax 8K v5 prototype - YouTube
I can occasionally see pixels, but I not sure I see any SDE. Regardless, the 8K looks great in this video. However there are limits to what a video can capture. I do hope this is indicative of the quality we can expect from our headsets.
Also, I have to say, this is the best video capture I’ve seen of the Pimax 8K.
It’s steady, the banding isn’t too bad, and the view doesn’t jump around as the headset is rapidly moved. That makes it much easier to get a feel for the visual quality. I paid particular attention to the control panel at the start and the fine “grid” effect at the end. It looks like fine details and text will be legible, which is a relief to me, since my primary use will be Elite Dangerous, which has lots of small text.
It says “Pimax 8k”.
The screen door effect is clearly visible on a 1440p monitor.
Oops, I misread the title. I’ve updated my previous post.
SDE is black edges around the edges of pixels, which I didn’t notice and I watched the video twice. I’m sure that a video will not be as clear as the actual headset, so it’s likely that the pixel edges will be more noticeable “in person”. Still, it looks way better than the current headsets.
Hyperion, even if you are filming a 2K headset through lenses you can’t see screendor effect.
I tried with Pimax B1 and Oculus Rift. You can’t see the screendoor effect on the actual movie you do. Or you might need an expensive camera. Maybe GoPro Hero 6 would do it, but I am not sure.
What you saw was the interference between camera refresh rate and Pimax 's panel refresh rate.
Even if you do not see a SDE on these videos you will see a SDE in the real HMD.
The FOV is simply too big for the resolution to not have a SDE. I think it will be extremely reduced to an extent where you wont really notic it. Yeah they said that with the VIVE too but that was marketing talk.
True. On Pimax 4K SDE can be seen, so it will be seen on Pimax 8K too. It is the same pixel density panel.
I also think one of the best videos done so far - so thanks @deletedpimaxrep1 for passing the comments to your colleague!
Is SDE visible here? well its a hard one to pin point, but not a topic for me really, since you already mentioned all the technical aspects that play a role which could cause “visual issues” in the recording of a video screen and second there is currently nothing better out there (until google brings theirs). I I have not worn the 8k, but I do believe that the central focus area will look better in resolution terms as the 4k and that the very outer edge area might be “worse”- which is ok for me.
Can’t wait to see the M1 reach the community testers!
Thanks for share it, Pimax 8K appears to be ready… looks really good.
And it is v5? I believe almost all bad reviews from CES where bad marketing (bullshit) against Pimax… It,'s trully amazing
Is this video from a pimax 8K V5 manually debugged ?
While beta testers will have first batch of V5 debugged from factory, called M1
Another video that shows nothing that would suggests it won’t be a great hmd but nothing to substantiate it. Seemed a little out of focus and a step back from the last one.
Mirq the Rift/vive/psvr are 2k headsets & yes you can capture sde.
If you recall i think it was @vts made a video comparing rift/vive/p4k/deepoon e3
Rift & vive 2k+(slightly) deepoon e3 2.5k(Qhd) & of course pimax 4k (qhd upscaled to 4k) using Lucky’s Tale
All I can say from my experience & most if the reviews of the v2/v3 that sde wasn’t noticed. Some mentioned seeing pixels but not sde.
Yes the 4k you can see sde but it is divided in half.
Lets not go down that rabbit hole again. @deletedpimaxrep1 validated the issues observed & after some tweaking later reviews at ces got better as a result.
I remember exactly the time we all stared at those pictures but I refrained from mention them here because those was optically zoomed, while we are talking here about a normal video with no chance of capturing SDE.
Glad you mentioned it, though.
Well there is a topic recently where a user demoed Vive sde vs 8k sde in one of the videos recently uploaded.
Is there a game suggestion list somewhere ?
Could be fun to see a demo of the hand tracking (leapmotion) software.
The screen door effect is clearly visible on a 1440p monitor. Maybe your YouTube resolution is only set to 1080p or lower. Then you won’t see it. If I find time I make a screenshot.
Even better would be a screenshot from the 4k footage.
