Like you said: On the horizon. I noticed the same article, but I think Pimax is offering 200 degrees with eyetracking and FR. In 2018. I don’t think Pimax is too careful on the iterations of the 8K. It takes a while to come up with a winner.
I read some ecosystem story on VR/AR. And Vancouver looks like the VR city to go to in the North American west coast: Vancouver Is Now One Of The Largest VR Hubs In The World - VRScout
Anyway the Pacific rims are the place to be for VR and AR. China, Korea, USA. I wish Europe made some VR tech too. Tobii counts for eyetracking and Varjo is working on some cool stuff too: https://varjo.com/

Its more the AR side that makes this quite impressive imho. Think Terminator viewpoint.
